That did not work either so I'm hoping this is close enough. Here.
-
Thanks. For whatever reason this does not work for me.

Were you ever able to post a link to this recipe that is not behind a paywall. I have his book but it does not seem to be in there. I was sure you did at some point but I can't track it down.

Fortinos is not the cheapest place! No worries about thanking me. I was curious myself to see if it was available.
-
According to my search these (there are a number of flavours) are available at Fortinos for I believe $7.99 for 160 gms. I am sure if I can find them then they must be available in some Ottawa area supermarkets also. edited to add that it looks like Real Canadian Superstore carries them.

Why wouldn't it be a serious post? A bunch of scientists theorize that they can build a rocket that will take a payload into space. They build the rocket. They ignite the fuel and the rocket explodes. So much for that theory. Doesn't every theory have to be tested?

Heads up, especially Canadians, Vivian Howard's This Will Make it Taste Good is available for $1.99 for the Kindle edition on both sites.

Somebody mentioned that @Ann_Twould be a good resource for information about baking couches. I had never heard her mention using one but did know that she owns and occasionally uses a cloche.

I would reach out to @Pete Fred -
Today @Kerry Bealand I thought about ordering once again from Saving Thyme but they had a complex Mother's Day boxed meal promotion going on and we suspected we might not be wise to try ordering something on their ordinary menu. So we pivoted to the Middle Eastern restaurant, Montforts, again. Kerry ordered kibbe, eggplant salad and another salad. She enjoyed her lunch and thankfully packed the leftovers home to her house! I choose poorly today. The last time we ordered from this restaurant I had the beef goulash soup and enjoyed it thoroughly. What could go wrong with ordering the chicken vegetable soup? Well they seem to have almost forgotten the vegetable part! There was loads and loads of chicken, some of it quite tough, one small carrot coin and a smidgen of cauliflower. To go with the soup I thought I would get adventurous and I ordered a kafta pita. I did do some minimal research to make sure it was something I might like but it turned out to be white I can only describe as a rather chewy hamburger in a pita bread with some salad. You cannot win them all apparently. But the company as usual was top notch. And Kerry arrived with bottles of bitter lemon. It is so hard to get that drink around here and I just love it. Oddly I was thinking about it only the other day and trying to source some but I had not mentioned it to anybody.

I was pretty sure you didn't and wondered if someone was confusing couche and cloche.

I mentioned in another thread that Niki Signit had released a plant-led version of her well-known Flavour Thesaurus. I can't really show you my Kindle copy but can link to this edited excerpt from it. Here.
-
I found it thought-provoking that Nikki Segnit in her latest book* suggests that a rigid reliance on recipes is a factor in food waste. I confess to being recipe-reliant and agree that a more instinctive approach to food preparation would likely reduce food waste. When one goes to the store with a list of ingredients to prepare a specific dish, chances are excellent that some of what is purchased will never be used. It will sit in the fridge or the pantry or the freezer until it is finally binned. *Flavour Thesaurus: more flavours: Plant-led pairings, recipes and ideas for cooks

Tried my best to look it up! It's an Asian grocery store here! -
There appears to be a Chinese grocery store in Peterborough which should carry a selection of noodles. Here. but it may not be convenient for Darienne. Most supermarkets carry some instant noodles.

If you are asking me I have no recipes for steamed puddings. I have never made one but my family made them. (I grew up in the UK). Birdseye custard powder is readily available here even in some supermarkets. Perhaps someone else will be able to help you with a recipe. -

That looks amazing. I grew up on steamed puddings and Birdseye custard. I could certainly make short work of a serving of this. -
I am another one who finds that jalapeños are completely unreliable. Some are so mild you could eat them like an apple and some will blow your brains out.

Interesting NYT article about texture in the culinary experience

Thank you. That made for an interesting read. -
Remarkably well. Which is not to say that it can hold a candle to freshly prepared and served tempura.

Yesterday we enjoyed one of my very favourite lunches. We ordered a selection of appetizers from the Korean Japanese restaurant, Sakai. @Kerry Beal's plate with edamame and miso soup. My plate. I also enjoyed lots of leftovers.

From my own experience I came to the conclusion that the concept of good nutrition, indeed any nutrition, being necessary to recuperation has gone by the wayside in so many institutions.
