Before that French Laundry, there was Sally Schmitt’s French Laundry
Anna N replied to a topic in Food Media & Arts
Thank you. I have tears in my eyes. It was a photograph of Sally’s hands peeling an apple with a knjife. It could’ve been my grandmother’s hands. And I am guessing the hands of hundreds and thousands of other grandmothers. -

In the Breville smart oven.

Shall I see if I can organize a CARE package for you?

It is actually most likely the result of having both pupils very severely dilated. Was blind in one eye and couldn’t see out of the other! Eventually I acknowledged this and handed the camera to my daughter.

After an appointment yesterday my daughter and I decided to grab a bite to eat at Pintoh. Glass of Riesling for me. Fresh salad rolls with peanut dipping sauce. I also asked for the mint dipping sauce. It was quite delicious and packed quite a punch.. Tom Yum soup for me. I also had duck laarb. Daughter had Gang Ped.

Hard to imagine anything more delicious.

Four times…… I tell you four times…… I had to make sure it was you posting. I can’t believe things have come to this. 😂

Looks like a substantial breakfast. Gotta love those little liverwurst chubs.

I grew up on poached rabbit! Not the cooking term but the other meaning. One of my uncles was a gameskeeper for a large estate in Lincolnshire. Frequently of an evening he would bring one of these home to my aunt. Whether the rabbits were actually poached or perhaps a perk of his job, I’m not entirely sure. I was a romantic then and quite familiar with the British traditional song the Lincolnshire Poacher. I may have connected these things in my childhood mind. But I have no doubt how much I loved the rabbit pie that my aunt made from these rabbits. The myxomatosis plague in the 50s took rabbit off the menu. I have made rabbit a few times but not very successfully. Now it is an expensive meat. I think the last time I checked it was between 25 and $30 for one rabbit. I will enjoy watching what others do with it.

For a long time you could find a Denver omelette or a Denver sandwich on diner menus even up here in Canada. Mostly they are now called Western.

When I can afford $2700 shoes I won’t object too much to dropping $17 on a cocktail but I really think it should be thrown in for free.😂 Frankly, I think the whole thing is rather a bad idea for both the seller and the buyer. In a litigious society $2700 shoes and $17 cocktails strike me as a bit of a time bomb.

Makes perfect sense and such an economical way of describing this cut of meat. I was trying my best to work it out mentally earlier in the day. Cow tails? No, that wouldn’t work because they might be from bulls. Bull tails? No, that wouldn’t work either. Then I got distracted... so thanks. I might eventually have pursued it further but you saved me the trouble.

Crustless quiche with prosciutto and cheddar. I knew even as I was pouring it into the dish that the proportions were off. In the spirit of never apologizing, I renamed it cheese pie. Just for my own satisfaction since I’m the only one eating it!

This was one of those buys that should’ve been walked away from. No matter what happened, the rice burned. However I believe the measuring cup was perfectly adequate indicating that it actually contained only 3/4 of a standard 8 ounce North American cup. The item is no longer in my possession so I cannot check on this.

Click. According to this article mushrooms are the new star of the produce department. I can only hope this is true! ”Some grocery stores are keeping up with demand by growing mushrooms on site.” Brace yourselves for recipes calling for mushrooms in all the wrong places.
