  1. Inspired by @Shelby’s grilled cheese sandwich, leftover lunch naan with Gruyere cheese and LGD.
  2. I had barely got over the horror of Footy Pie (made even more disgusting by the addition of ketchup) when you suggest something other than sausage should appear in a sausage roll. This is the reason I keep smelling salts close at hand. 😂
  3. So far in my relatively long life I have yet to hear a single person say I have too much fridge!
  4. That’s my problem. I don’t have a fridge in the garage. Oh but wait… I don’t have a garage. 😂 Thanks very much for that explanation.
  5. I’ll bet you are. But my question for you is how/where will you store all this fresh produce? I have a relatively large French door LG refrigerator but no way could I fit all of your fresh produce that needs/benefits from refrigeration into the crisper drawers.
  6. Yes. I do find that chattering teeth interfere with conversation.
  7. I will openly admit to buying into the myth about a wok needing high BTUs. Just putting my brain into gear should have dismissed the myth as logically unlikely outside of a restaurant setting. But apparently I didn’t take the time to think it through. It is regrettable because otherwise I might have used my wok much more frequently. It always struck me as an extremely well designed implement. Don’t do much cooking anymore so my wok is acquiring a lovely patina of dust. But I still have it so who knows.
  8. Not that I had ever intended to make these/this but I do appreciate your very careful description of how it went.
  9. You butter the bun for a burger? OK then. It’s a good job we live continents apart. But then what should I expect of people who think beetroot is an appropriate topping on a burger? 😂
  10. Looks delicious and how nice that you could eat together outside. The temperature here was hovering around zero. Not conducive to outdoor dining.
  11. Today the weather was cold enough to justify another feast from our favourite Indian restaurant, Bombay Grill. Kerry‘s plate. From lower left: fried paneer, onion bhaji, bhuna chicken , naan, saag gosht (lamb with spinach), rice and a dipping sauce in the centre. My plate — same food.
  12. Click. Nigella Lawson butters her toast twice and causes chaos at the breakfast table.
  13. Look away! It weighs 45 pounds packaged.
  14. You just improved my day immeasurably. It would get even better if there were some romaine in my fridge but alas there is not. But it just made an appearance on my grocery list.
  15. I had no idea. Why is it not criticized? My guess would be that no one wants to actually acknowledge it.
  16. I don’t see why not. Olive bars in supermarkets are not refrigerated.
  17. That is wonderful news. I’m so happy for you. I would be inclined to grill the romaine halves. Just a thought.
  18. Yeah maybe. I live in a stacked townhouse which means there is a dwelling above me and that two walls are shared with houses on either side of me. I have a front and a back door but as you can imagine, I am well insulated so it’s hard to find anywhere where the temperature differs.

    Breakfast 2020!

Garlic naan topped with spinach, slow roasted tomatoes and gruyere cheese.
  20. So I finally gathered up sufficient courage to dispose of my rotting cabbage. And now I have nothing but regret. I think it was probably perfectly fine. I was expecting the stench to be overwhelming but instead it was much, much less obvious and of a different nature altogether. But this information did not reach my very slow brain until it was much too late and the cabbage was not salvageable. I am encouraged and will try this again when I can get some more cabbage and this time a cucumber. Not quite sure how I will handle the ambient temperature issue. I have no garage and can no longer access the basement so finding a cool spot is going to be particularly challenging. Damn. Again!
  21. A couple of days ago I decided to try the tourtière from the Hamilton Pie Company. I did take a photograph but it was extremely blurry so I will save you the aggravation. @Duvelwill have to sulk. 😂 My first clue that this was not going to be one of my favourite pastries was the overwhelming aroma of allspice as soon as I broke the crust..I was able to choke down about half of it before binning the rest. Had it not been for the overuse of the spice I think this might have been quite a good meal. The meat was juicy and plentiful although I think it was all beef. The pastry was good.
  22. Somehow I managed to skip completely over this post. Wow I do approve of your renovations. Not that you were looking for my approval!
  23. I am always impressed with what you manage to accomplish but now I am totally gob smacked that you forged ahead given these limitations. Wow.
  24. Thank goodness for that! However, since I do not seem to be cut out for experiments in fermentation , I will likely give it a miss.
  25. Thanks everybody. I think this is another time when the sauerkraut is going into the compost bin. I suspect the problem might be that the ambient temperature is just too high. Damn.
