  1. Inspired now to bake my own loaf... I had a box of KAF potato bread mix on hand that I'd bought a couple months ago. I'm mixing that up now in my bread machine and will bake it in my CSO.
  2. Did you tent the loaves at any time? Mine get too brown if I don't; usually about 15 minutes into the bake.
  3. It looks like your bread pans are doubled up...is that right?
  4. For my oven I keep the toast setting at #6. That seems to be the 'right' setting for the darkness I prefer. However, I re-think it each time I'm toasting something unusual and adjust accordingly, then keep an eye out.
  5. i write my grocery lists on a sticky pad which I take with me. Try to organize it by department....I hate having got to the bottom of the list only to discover the green onions which are at the entrance of the store and needing to backtrack. (Let's just say I'm no spring chicken.)

    Breakfast! 2018

A favorite of mine too. Mom used to make this from scratch; I use Stauffer's also.

    Cold Brew

I made it to the Starbucks kiosk in the grocery store yesterday and found their cold brew boxes I used one of the bags in a quart jar (pitchers take too much room in the fridge) and added two cups water. It is steeping in the fridge now and will be ready about 1PM when I'll remove the coffee bag and add the remaining water. I plan to make each packet separately and keep one inside and the other in the garage fridge until I need it. I'm impressed with the taste of the cold brew. Previously I just made my iced coffee with coffee K-cups but this is really a lot better.
  8. Lunch today was KFC picked up while I was in town. dark meat chicken (original style) was good, once I peeled off the flabby skin. I threw out the too sweet cookie along with the biscuit. The potatoes and gravy were good too.
  9. In the bad old days my Mom would have used the term 'dead Indian' for the 'finished' bottle'. No offense intended.
  10. I haven't had a baked potato since winter so that's what I'm having for lunch today as soon as it's out of the CSO.

    Cold Brew

I tried Starbucks (bottled) cold brew coffee yesterday for the first time and was surprised at just how good it was. Now I'm going to start making my own with the brew packs that Starbucks offers. It's a nice change from my usual iced tea
  13. I just recently started steaming instead of boiling and my results are as yours....no more issues with the membranes sticking. k
  14. I couldn't find the 'recipe thread'. Here's the recipe I use, with modifications: Broccoli Salad 1 head broccoli 6 to 8 slices cooked bacon, crumbled 1/2 cup chopped red onion 1/2 cup raisins, optional 8 ounces sharp Cheddar, cut into very small chunks 1 cup mayonnaise 2 tablespoons white vinegar 1/4 cup sugar 1/2 cup halved cherry tomatoes Salt and freshly ground black pepper Trim off the large leaves from the broccoli stem. Remove the tough stalk at the end and wash broccoli head thoroughly. Cut the head into flowerets and the stem into bite-size pieces. Place in a large bowl. Add the crumbled bacon, onion, raisins if using, and cheese. In a small bowl, combine the remaining ingredients, stirring well. Add to broccoli mixture and toss gently. I omit the bacon and the cheese.
  15. I like to keep tiny Oregon shrimp (frozen) on hand to make Shrimp Louie when it's really hot.
  16. Have you dismissed the stuffed cabbage idea?
  17. It was featured on the KAF site today for $66 more also w/free shipping. But KAF is always more.
  18. I'm being tempted by the Cuisinart ICE-100 compressor ice cream maker...so far I've resisted.
  19. Wow, you're made of sturdier stuff than I. I like it cold for sleep and 60 would be about perfect. Daytime 68 is nice. Summer, when it's so hot I can tolerate up to 76 but any higher than that I get crotchety.
  20. Lunch today with friends at our favorite nearby café. Mine was a patty melt with cold slaw on the side….vey good although the cole slaw had a small amount of pineapple in it and the dressing wasn't my particular favorite. My friends had eggs and bacon and one had taco salad. The food there is very good and it's a very friendly place to go.
  21. i'll be very interested in this as well....I face similar challenges and have avoided dealing with that big cabbage, depriving myself of one of my favorite meals. I've tried some recipes such as 'unstuffed' cabbage where the chopped leaves are mixed in with the filling and made into a casserole but they just don't taste the same. my favorite recipe is from a very old (late 60's) Better Homes and Gardens cookbook. Quite simple and very tasty. For some reason I never copied the recipe into my software so it's fortunate that I've save the book for all these years.
  22. I also like to brown some German sausage or kielbas with some German fried potatoes to make an easy oven free dinner.
  23. Because I 'm sometimes lazy especially when it's hot I have purchased Hodgson's Mills honey whole whet bread mix. It makes a very good loaf that I can bake in my CSO. Got it from Walmart.
  24. Stir fries are quick and easy. I also like cold Asian noodle salads.
