  1. where is the WOW emoji? Gorgeous!
  2. I rarely make pizza so it's actually for my breads. Do I really need this?
  3. Baked my first loaves of Paul Hollywood's ciabatta bread yesterday. (Pix will have to wait as my cleaning woman just arrived at my door). Not bad. I don't yet have baking steel since I can't find one small enough (12x14") to fit. I may just have to buy a small pizza stone instead. The bread was very good....certainly not of Paul's standards but good enough fore a first try. I served it with Ina Garten's recipe of Roasted Tomato Basil Soup which is just wonderful.
  4. I watched an episode last evening (recorded from an earlier broadcast) in which Paul and Mary were baking ciabatta, baked Alaska and so on. I got inspired by the ciabatta and I have the dough rising in its square container now. So much fun to watch those two putting together such gorgeous recipes! I hear that Mary has since left the show,; how sad, she's just so lovely to watch.
  5. The Catholic church in my town always does fish fry dinners during Lent. This year it's takeout only. My friend and I stopped in last Friday and then again this past Friday. Three pieces of fish, coleslaw, dinner roll, butter, waffle fries, tartar sauce, ketchup and chocolate pudding all for $9. A good cause and I love those Knights of Columbus guys getting together and putting it all together. I'm thinking that when those men are no longer with us that' anyone would be hell bent trying to find guys today who would carry on the tradition.
  6. Spam never entered our home while growing up. Truthfully, I have never eaten Spam. While I will try most everything at least once, I've never been offered Spam. On our many trips to the Hawaiian Islands, though, I was always fascinated by the mountains of the stuff displayed in the drugstores there.
  7. okay! My FBCSO arrived ahead of schedule on Monday. I managed, on my own, to get the box open and remove the detritus and get into the second internal box. That's as far a I could get. This baby's heavvy! Tomorrow my canasta playing friends are coming so I will have help lifting the behemoth out of its box and setting it up on the countertop. I can't wait to bake my first loaf of bread!
  8. My dog might eat it.
  9. I noticed my store is selling the point cut for $1 more per pound than the flat cut. I always thought the flat cut was best as the grains is more regular. Which is really the better cut?

    Dinner 2021

One of my card playing friends made us a chicken salad made with Costco canned chicken, miracle whip, onion, celery, s&P and softened Craisins. It was terrific and the best chicken salad I'd ever had. I'm making the same this weekend for sandwiches.
  11. Ditto.
  12. That's what DVRs are for.
  13. Me too! The competitors are such lovely people.

    Bangers

The only source near here for bangers seems to be Costco at or around St. Patrick's Day. We checked there yesterday and there were none. Too bad. I'll have to try another variety of sausage if I want bangers.
  15. Right now Amazon has this oven on sale (US) for $449.95. $50 off. I just ordered mine.
  16. Friend and I ventured into Missoula yesterday for some appointments, lunch and shopping. We stopped in at the brand-new WinCo to have a look around. The store is enormous! 70,000 square feet! Bigger than our Costco for Home Depot or Walmart. Lots of choices. We picked up a few things, although we're both widows and don't buy a whole lot. Good prices on everything. I can see that this store will have a mighty impact on the other chain grocers here. The only disappointment, there were no King Arthur products to be found and we're both home bakers.
  17. So you're planning to replace all that A-C? In case you haven't see it before there's 'cookwarenmore' where you can get A-C irregulars for less. I have a few pieces from there and they are perfect (at least to my eye).
  18. Almost all of my cookware is All-Clad stainless, about 20 years old. I do have a lot of LeCreuset and one brand new Viking saute pan. All of it works very well. My first test of my new induction range was to boil water in an A-C saucepan...it was astonishingly fast.
  19. I bought this induction range a few months ago for my brand new home...not only is it beautiful but it is a dream to cook with. Café™ 30" Smart Slide-In, Front-Control, Induction and Convection Range with Warming Drawer - CHS900P4MW2 - Cafe Appliances
  20. Where is the 'hoirrified' emoji?
  21. My friend and I who are also 'ladies who lunch' (and often breakfast together) went to our nearby cafe yesterday. Surprisingly, their wonderful salad bar is finally open again after nearly a year and they told us they've opened up their Sunday buffet once again. Our governor has lifted nearly all restrictions. I sincerely hope this is going to end well.
  22. I was in need of a smaller saute pan than my 3-qt. All-Clad stainless and I came across this one by Viking. It arrived via UPS this morning and I'm thrilled with it. The pans mentioned in the earliler threads from 2009 mentioned 7-ply/ This one is 3 ply but is at least as heavy as my similar AC pans. They also offer a 'professional' line that's 5-ply. Macy's had this on sale and with their code I paid only >$129 for it. I love the handle! I don't love AC handles.
  23. Actually, now that I have measured my space, I will have to refuse the delivery (if I can manage to catch the UPS guy when he drops it off. I have a m/w mounted inside a cabinet opening and the Blumlein would need to fit underneath that but there's not quite enough height for it. I'm no interested in the smaller model because I need all the interior height for my loaves. Someday a model will come along that's just right for my needs.
