  1. King Arthur Flour has loads of great recipes. My personal favorite for toast is their 'Oatmeal Toasting Bread', it's a keeper.

    Food Mills

Mine has been used very infrequently but then I don't raise a garden or have access to a farmers' market. It was long ago moved to a box in the garage.
  3. I have the Hobart KA 5-qt. lift model (from the mid-seventies - as mentioned above). As far as I can tell it doesn't seem to have an adjustment for beater height. Anyone know for sure?
  4. Not being big enough to fit a quarter sheet pan is the first deal breaker for me. The steam effect on the overhead cabinet would be a huge concern as well.
  5. Nope, it's dead. No display at all. Customer service offered me two options since my oven is well out of warranty. One: I could swap my oven for a refurbished one. Two: They would send me a brand-new oven for 20% off list price and free shipping. I chose the new oven since with the refurb I'd have to ship my old one back to them at my cost. And, I use my oven so much that I really want a new one. I'll eat the extra cost. Now begins the long wait for the unit to arrive...I rely so much on my Oven that it'll be hard to go back to a standard toaster for the duration..
  6. Weinoo, Do yourself a really big favor and buy the Cuisipro Foam Pump from Amazon (sorry I'm not able to post a link now). I bought four of these for my kitchen and bathrooms. Love them!!! They never clog, you can use any kind of soap you like and they don't fall over or tip on the counter tops. Also, Dial makes foaming soap now in a dispenser that's pretty good. I'll never go back to using full-strength soap now after using foam.
  7. Oy! My BSO died completely unexpectedly yesterday, for no apparent reason. I'd used it for toast in the morning and then when I tried to use it to prepare dinner nothing happened when I tried to turn it on. Has this happened to anyone else? Thanks to Amazon (because you can always look up your old orders) I see I bought it almost exactly two years ago. I plan to phone their customer service later this morning and will post back with the results of that conversation.
  8. My beginner books were from Better Homes and Gardens. Lots of simple, tasty recipes.
  9. Norm, Just Gorgeous!!! I've never made brioche. Can you point us to the recipe you used?
  10. In a hurry yesterday to go from the dentist then to the gym, I stopped at McDonalds that was almost next door and got the McRib. OMG it was nasty. Almost slimy from the over application of sauce. I took a couple bites and threw the rest out. Should have gone for the chicken sandwich that's always good.

    Canned Chicken

Here in the U.S. you can get this canned chicken from Costco. Does Canada have Costco stores?

    "Floater" beans

This hasn't to do with 'floaters' but I thought I'd add that I've been making the most wonderful bean soup with Bob's Red Mill 13-bean soup mix. I love Bob's products. I used to live quite near their outlet in Milwaukee OR and it was a real treat to run in and look through their products.
  13. I'm still enjoying my Breville XL after at least a year of fairly heavy usage. I only wish I could buy a replacement drip tray since mine is getting pretty ratty. Other than that, I have to say this is one of the very best investments I've ever made in a small appliance. When mine dies I will hot foot it to get a new one (or its next generation). I love mine and use it daily.
  14. I can see why you couldn't resist! It's farking gorgeous!!! I have a five quart lift KA (Hobart made) that I purchased in the mid 70s. I was tempted to sell it when I got an Electrolux. But I'm so glad I kept my KA since it's what I use now. I no longer have a need for the great big mixer.
  15. Love the gorgeous candy apple red. Makes me wish I needed another mixer.
  16. Poet, Yes, the US model Fisslers. I love mine and if I could I'd trade the K-R's for them in a minute. And that's not to say the K-R's aren't really great PCs; it's just that Fissler models are so much better. The big difference I see is in the disc base - the K-Rs don't cover the entire bottom of the pan/pot, so there's scorching sometimes. And the Fisslers are heavier overall.
  17. Get one!!! Everything I've heard about this mixer is fantastic. I would buy one in a second if I had a need for one that size. I haven't heard a single negative comment on this model. http://www.amazon.com/KitchenAid-Qt-Commercial-Stand-Mixer/dp/B006LLZ83G
  18. I like the small sized plates and bowls mostly for luncheon pieces (for cereal, soups, sandwiches, etc.). I buy mine at Walmart.
  19. I guy the jumbo pack of napkins that Costco sells. Perfect.
  20. I actually bought some La Croix a couple weeks ago; it was the unflavored variety. I had to throw it out because it had such an odd flavor - I can't describe it, but it was unlike any other seltzer or soda I've ever had before.
  21. Remember the Bass-o-matic?
  22. Something I can relate to as well. I don't like plain water; and I particularly don't like water at room temp. I will drink sparkling water (seltzer or club soda) over ice with lemon.
  23. I force myself (very iinfrequently) to eat oatmeal because it is good for me. I don't really like it - I had to eat it as a kid because Mother said so. It's the texture that gets to me. However, I can force it down once in a great while and it feels like an achievement when I do.
  24. Personally, I've never found Beano to be an effective tool in eliminating flatulence.
