    slummin' it!

I see your chip butty and raise you a bacon butty...ahhhh, the food of my youth! ← what is it?? i'm ashamed to say i have NO idea ← In our house, we liked toast for the butties/buttys (what is the correct plural for butty???) so a bacon butty was toasted bread, bacon, and ketchup. Heaven... Edited to add that it just occurred to me that the foreign term might be "butty"...it's a sandwich. ← thanks!! everything's better w/ bacon... even ketchup

    Dinner! 2005

here you go I made half the recipe, and instead of the two kinds of chocolate, used one 200 gram bar of high quality chocolate. (You can't get good chocolate chips over here so that's what I always do). I was directed to this recipe by someone on the Cookiedough thread in the pastry forum... ← thanks!!

  13. i've worked in 10 or so restaurants in SF and most recently in yountville and also worked for the restaurant association in SF w/ 500+ member restaurants. maybe 10% of the restaurants "pooled" tips. the restaurants that don't pool, have a "tip out" where servers have to tip out the busser, bar, host etc. a certain percentage of what their take is for the night. in fact, when the minimum wage was to increase in SF about 90 restaurants wanted to have their staff start pooling tips (adding a service charge to a check then makes those "tips" property of the restaurant that they can divy up as they see fit), this didn't go over well & not many adopted the pooling method of tipping out.
  14. I don't know who you are speaking of, as don't watch as live in europe, but i must jump in at the smelling of every bite of food: this is something that i do: the initial wave of scent gives additional pleasure and helps me take more pleasure from the dish. also if it is disgusting and i shouldn't put it in my mouth, that first whiff will tell me so too. i LOVE to smell my food. i love to smell the ingredients too! its sensual, its delish! (and a huge part of our sense of flavour comes from our sense of smell). marlena ← sorry marlena... i didn't mean to offend, but to me this woman's habit seemed to be a neurotic tick... that and her outrageous fear of oil...

  23. eastside west has a great brunch on saturday & sundays and at that time the restaurant is very child friendly - there is a great fish tank in the back room too. (located at the corner of greenwich & fillmore in the marina/cow hollow dist.)
  24. Oops, sorry- I only put a tiny bit of broth in her soups at first- She really like the moistening effect on her molars and it kept her from choking/gagging on dry things that were hard to chew. I also would spoon feed her some cool broth (I make a lot of soups and stews in the winter). She is pretty independent and was using the spoon pretty early though. I just put a big napkin on her and a place mat under her bowl and let her go to town! If you check the food & nutrition forum on mothering.com there are tons of toddler ideas there. I highly recommend it! Oh, tree nuts aren't as likely to be allergenic as peanuts, but there is still a chance. If there are allergies in your family you might want to wait til she's 2 or even 3. We didn't have any nut allergies here so I started some almond butter around 15 months I think (since she didn't tolerate dairy back then). She loves almonds though. ← thnak you so much for the response! i'll check out the site!!
