One more question about Imperfect Foods and then maybe I'll just shut up and order (or not lol). Do they offer fresh herbs?

Ditto.

Happy New Year! @Ann_TThat is almost too beautiful to eat! @Paul BacinoI've never had shaved truffles before. I will make that happen someday! Your tortellini looks to die for. New Year's Eve we did a little recreation of what we did for our wedding (it was our 21st anniversary). We made fried fish and macaroni and cheese for everyone. So we did that along with some oysters and shishito peppers and of course champagne! I am really hoping these RG beans help the world's luck this new year..... \ For New Year's I've been saving a port wine cheese ball (I think it was @blue_dolphinthat made me hungry for it). I realize I could have made the platter more pretty, but I can't bear to put food on Santa..... Brie with WONDERFUL spicy jalapeño cranberry jelly that my folks gave us Got it melted a bit too much but still delicious Texas Caviar \ We bought a big ham when it was on sale so Ronnie cut that up and I froze it--ham for months you know. To go with, collard greens (Ronnie begged me not to make the kale and it felt unlucky to force it upon him lol), scalloped potatoes, ham steaks with mustard sauce. So that's all the lucky foods I had in the house. I hope the rest of you did your part to make luck happen

I'm not sure who sorts it out.....my boxes ship from Salt Lake City, UT but I'd bet that could be different for others depending on where they live. Here's how mine works: Saturday January 9th at 3 pm central time, I will be able to build my box. I have between then and Jan. 11th to get that done but I've learned to set an alarm and log in at the exact opening time so I can get the most selection. After I build my box I have an amount of time to log back in and change my picks, but they warn that re-choosing might leave you not being able to get the other items that you still want. January 12th they will charge my credit card and set up shipping with Fed Ex. Friday the 15th is when my box should deliver--maybe the day before. I haven't had anything that isn't fresh as me buying from the store (keep in mind that it's winter in Kansas so your milage may vary if you live in a warmer, more produce conducive area). I've been very happy (except for the kale issue). I don't live where anything can be delivered from a store so this is very much a good thing for us.

Wow you got garlic and a mango! I've never had those as a choice. I want to try imperfect too, but I wish I didn't have to sign up and then cancel it over and over.....

Got my box. While I'm so happy they got it to me early, for the first time, they messed up my order. I'm doing this ordering stuff to stay out of the store and I really needed lettuce. We go through a ton of it. I had to go to the liquor store yesterday so I ran in to the tiny store in the nearest town--they only had iceberg --but I grabbed a head. Anyway, lettuce was supposed to come today, instead I got KALE . We are not kale fans.....I'm thinking about replacing the collard greens I had planned on for tomorrow with that (it's still considered a lucky leafy green). Think that would work?

I need to revisit their website. I'm wondering if I can see what they offer without actually placing an order yet. Fedex says they have my Misfits box loaded and it's supposed to be here today. I'm going to be very pleased if that happens. I emailed Misfits last weekend because I realized that my normal delivery day was tomorrow (NewYears Day) and I was concerned because obviously that wasn't going to happen and out here they don't normally deliver anything on the weekends. Their customer service wrote me back promptly and said they would try to make adjustments and they must have been successful. Now I need to go through and organize the fridge lol @TicTac you might be interested in this thread. There is more discussion also on the food in the time of a pandemic thread.

Happy New Year's Eve! Working on eating up veggies that needed to be eaten before I (hopefully) get my Misfits box today. Made a broccoli salad--lightly blanched broccoli with a lemon juice/olive oil/red wine vinegar mix and some onions. Not too bad...needed something though. Maybe a sprinkle of grated parm would have livened it up. Venison meat sauce spaghetti to go with. Reheated the last of the prime rib using sous vide --had that with leftover mashed potatoes and bok choy

@Kim ShookYour holidays always look so warm and perfect!!! Your tree is gorgeous and love your blue wine glasses. -
Ronnie got me the 8 quart Instant Pot Duo Evo Plus for Christmas. It's sure pretty and BIG. Has anyone discussed using the sous vide setting or the bake setting? I did a quick search and couldn't find anything. I used the sous vide setting yesterday to do some chicken. I was skeptical because the water doesn't circulate...ok, maybe I should use the word nervous instead of skeptical. I was going to fry the chicken anyway after the sous vide so I was hoping I didn't make us sick or kill us (it's all good we had no ill effects and the chicken was great lol). I tested the water temp several times with my thermapen and it was always 2 degrees under what I had set it for.....I don't know if it's my pens fault or the IP. Anyway, I'd love to know if others have tried these different settings and what you think.

Night before last we had another Caesar salad with the rest of the cioppino Eggnog for dessert Last night I sous vide and then fried chicken along with Yukon gold mashed potatoes

Christmas Eve/Christmas, New Year's Eve/Day 2020/21

Merry Christmas!!!! I just semi-finished putzing around and getting the kitchen cleaned up and some gifts put away. I was a better girl than I thought I was this year lol. Christmas Eve dinner was SO good. I kind of felt guilty about ordering the cioppino, but I got over it quickly....the amount of seafood included was AMAZING and so good. I served it over a bit of linguine along with Wellfleet oysters, Caesar salad (which included two anchovies which counts towards the seven fishes) and sourdough bread. I have thought about @ChocoMom's apple snickers dessert since she very first posted it. I happened to have granny apples and cool whip so I ordered some Snicker's bars from Amazon and made. O M G. We devoured it. I even got up in the middle of the night and ate some...which resulted in having to brush my teeth again, but it was worth it. I had another glass of wine while looking at the tree for a while This morning we had the kolaches I ordered. I had been wanting these for a very long time. The sweet ones are blueberry and cherry and the savory are sausage, cheese and jalapeño. The sausage is really good. It's links. No gristle. Spicy. Mimosas Eggs, hash browns and boudin to go with. I'm ready for a nap lol. BUT it's almost time to start on dinner- 162 replies

I'm soooo jealous--not only of this, but of everything. I am CRAVING shrimp cocktail. Ronnie's brother and his wife gave us homemade horseradish from their garden and I really wanted to make cocktail sauce out of it to go with that tonight but I'm out of shrimp. I thought I was, but sometimes a miracle happens and I find some that are buried in the freezer. Not this time. I will live vicariously through yours.

Just so you can track Santa--who is wearing a mask.... https://www.noradsanta.org -
Yeah, they are considered a big pain in the butt around here too. They congregate in huge amounts and pick the seeds out of the fields...farmers hate them. And in the city they poo allllll over the sidewalks. Ick.

The young ones are tender...dark meat. Very good. He doesn't shoot many other kinds of geese. Teal are my favorite ducks...the goose meat is darker than those. The old Canadian geese are not my favorite. Tough tough tough. Those I roast and then pressure cook and use in goose and noodles.
-
Merry Christmas Eve everyone! Ronnie got 3 young Canadian geese a few days ago, so I had him pluck and brine them. I vac packed two of them and dropped them off on my friends (my cleaning angel) porch. She, her husband and two young ones love ducks and geese. Anyway, I saved one for us and roasted it. Last night was chicken enchiladas, stuffed peppers and RG beans

@Ann_TWhen you get a chance, I'd love to see the Chile sauce recipe.

I couldn't have...that is a good price! Last week the ones I saw were almost $8 a pound.
