Thawed out half of the gyro meat I made a while ago--got some really good pita bread. I'm glad to still have half left and another package of lamb so I can make more. broccoli salad gyro fixings Last night I roasted a chicken quarter and some thighs--little tiny baby potatoes (Imperfect Foods calls them Creamer potatoes) were underneath to catch all the drippings. Parsnips and carrots brussels sprouts and tomatoes

I use a lot of lemons and limes--much more so than in the past. A squirt really brightens certain veggies up. Ronnie uses half a lime every night in a drink (mostly all soda water with a splash of vodka and lime).

Yeah, they are BIG (the sprouts) but they look nice and fresh. I've gotten it from Misfits, too. I'll post a picture of it next weekend--it's not paper, but it's some kind of mushed together fabric...almost like the lint that comes out of my dryer lol. I wondered about the weight too...but dang it couldn't have added that much to put those in.... and if it did, they could have used a much smaller box.... I dunno. Out here we can just throw cardboard in our burn pile and get rid of it, but I imagine it's much harder for folks in the city and in apartments.

@Duvel.....the food...the snow....the food.....the snow.....I want it all! Venison stroganoff Italian sausage, sauce, salad (really good radishes from Misfits Market) and bread Hot wings...was hungry for canned spinach (don't judge lol) Mac and cheese and shishito peppers

Yes, same place. It just seems so very wasteful to me....but hell, what do I know?

I got my first Imperfect Foods order today. It was shipped from Northlake, Il. I was surprised that there were two boxes of the same size.....I'll get around to that in a minute. I took pictures so the packaging could be shown. The boxes are good, sturdy boxes. The inside has a paper ...kind of thick "insulation" box with a flip up lid. The ice pack (which was still frozen solid) was wrapped up in this foil type "envelope" The white strip at the top peels off to let you seal it. I'll definitely be keeping these to reuse. Inside of the first box: Now, here's were it gets weird. I opened the second box --mind you the same size as the first --here's a picture so you can see how big they are: Here is the just opened second box: Five limes and two heads of garlic. 😳 NO question that all would have fit in the first box. So they wasted a box, the ice, the foil envelope......I don't get it. Here is a picture of all my loot The pita, cheeses and meats were add-on items. I like that they tell you what exactly is "imperfect" about each item...they tell you if it's a surplus, or wind damage scratches (on pears I think) etc. The onions are a bit small...the Brussels sprouts are a bit big lol but all is just fine with me. I have my account set up to deliver once a week but I'll skip this week because Misfits will be here next Saturday. I have a feeling I will be screwing up..it's a lot to remember to order and cancel lol.

If I do one, I do for Mardi Gras. I'm not sure I'll do one this year. Sometimes I make a little batch of cinnamon rolls and sprinkle with purple, gold and green sanded sugar for a cheat.

@gulfporterI think your picture looks delicious! Caesar salad and pepperoni pizza Broccoli beef and an eggroll Beer brats, fries and homemade sauerkraut (from Vivian Howard's book)

Those gaps are the same as here. Did you happen to peruse the TP/cleaning isles? BIG gaps here still.

My potatoes from Misfit were great. Now I'm nervous--I ordered taters from Imperfect.
-
What size box are you getting?

I couldn't stand it any longer so I ordered an Imperfect box. Not as simple as Misfits, but that's because there are more categories. I discarded most of the things "they" added to my cart (Ronnie would crap if I bought organic grass fed ground beef lol). It's more expensive than Misfits. I have to order a minimum of $45 worth plus the shipping is $8.99 on top of that. The benefit is being able to order other things besides produce. I didn't see too much different produce wise as compared to Misfits. They didn't have any fresh herbs except a clamshell with thyme and rosemary and basil. Hopefully I can get what I need with my next Misfits. I was impressed with the bread selection . Lots of chicken and beef. Eggs. Anyway, it was fun and I'm looking forward to seeing what I got. The following is my order (all conventional, no organic): Creamer potatoes (not exactly sure what these are) Brussels sprouts Lemons Broccoli Yellow onion Limes Butter lettuce Grape tomatoes Garlic Crimini mushrooms Parm. Cheese wedge (I'm almost out--this is badly needed) Pita bread Pepperoni Salami Roast beef deli meat (mainly to hit the required $45) Also, got a really nice response from Misfits regarding the dreaded kale. They responded on New Years Day which I didn't expect. She said it wasn't a mistake--they subbed it because they were out of lettuce. So *shrug* I will figure out something to do with it.

Hi Kim! Easy as heck and really good. A cup of cream, half a cup of mustard (I used a grainy brown) salt and pepper. Heat in a pan on low.

I wondered the same thing. Mine just happens to renew in January. I don't remember if I got one in December though....

WOW! I swear, you get the best stuff! I'm still very much learning the new IP. I need to go back and read our IP thread here and see what people have to say about it. The two new functions on mine are the Sous Vide and Baking ones. I used the SV doing some chicken and it worked great (but I'm confused because it doesn't circulate at all so......I thought that was the whole point to have water circulation). -
I just got an email from Amazon saying that my Saveur magazine is no longer available. I did a quick google but I couldn't find anything. Are they stopping their print magazine or is it just an Amazon stoppage?

Roasted a couple of mallard ducks last night. Made a mushroom/red wine/cream sauce, Brussels sprouts and Yukon gold (I'm now convinced that these make the best mashed potatoes ever)mashed to go with.

Yeah, I'm sure either my mom or great grandmother made ours out of one of those patterns. I remember being so cold (always cold in KS for Easter). White fabric with pink rose buds (I think). My mom may tell me I'm delusional lol. And back to food....always a jello salad that looks very similar to a lot of things in these booklets lol.

You should have seen my mom and I in the late 70's for Easter....... I'm loving these....I'm seeing a bunch that I also have but also so many new ones! Thanks all for sharing
