  1. They do look pretty--they actually look like heirloom tomatoes, but I bet they don't taste as good as they look lol.
  2. OMG well I DID order watermelon radishes....I had no idea they were that HUGE!!! LOL I'm dying laughing. I thought they were called that due to their pink color on the inside. I feel dumb 🤣
  3. As mentioned above, I had a bit of rabbit left. Ronnie immediately said I should make ravioli with it. Good idea! I had just enough milk to make some ricotta in the IP yesterday afternoon. Mixed that with diced up rabbit, fresh flat leaf parsley, garlic, salt and pepper, and an egg. Oh and some fresh grated parmesan. Made a sauce using a mushroom broth, mushrooms, garlic, sherry and a bit of cream.
  4. Misfits box yesterday. Was a bit nervous. Wind chills were below zero, but nothing harmed at all in the box. They subbed a few things again. One tiny complaint is when they do that I wish they'd tell me what they sent (I think they are rutabagas??? They are the far right items in the first picture. Kind of look like big turnips too...). The green beans were excellent. Imperfect should be here in a few hours.
  5. That's when you know you're meant to have the FBSO!

Ditto. In fact the phrase I uttered was "You're killing me, smalls".
  7. But but but what's on pages 21 and 24?
  8. You wouldn't even know this was wild, IMO. I didn't....guess I should have. I gave the carcass to the outside cats. I'll do that next time.

Roasted chicken, baby potatoes and bruss. sprouts Wild rabbit Pho last night
  10. I've looked at so many rabbit recipes that my eyes are crossed lol. I really wanted to do a Sichuan rabbit type dish, but I'm missing like three key ingredients....still in an Asian type mood, and having some fresh rice noodles that I had ordered, I thought RABBIT PHO! I first thought I'd pressure cook the rabbit in the pho broth, but after many hours of thinking and looking, I decided to go with @rotuts suggestion of sous vide. I did not want a dry bunny. Sous vide was definitely the way to go. 145F for 90 mins. Got a bit of nice broth...going to be used in my next rabbit creation. Pull apart tender. Just like a deer, a rabbit has a back strap and a tenderloin. I used those pieces (the ones on the top) for the Pho and am saving the rest for later. My bowl before the broth. Ronnie's mid meal 'cause I forgot to get an after broth picture lol. This was excellent. In full disclosure we snacked on a front leg before dinner...melty...delicious good. I don't know why we don't get more rabbits. Would help the lettuce in the garden, too.......
  11. Well, I'm mad at myself. After looking through what was available at Imperfect I had decided to skip this week because I'm getting Misfits. Then I waffled back and forth....then it hit me that it's Valentine's Day this weekend and I wanted some berries. Also, I really wanted more lamb so I got to work filling my cart. Got everything up to the amount of money I am supposed to spend, went back to get the lamb...SOLD OUT . Lesson: just order the dang food when your window first opens lol.

Wow!!! Happy Anniversary!! I've never heard of that site--I just looked it up. Lots of foods there that are on my bucket list. Ronnie told me to lose that site lol.
  13. I meant to ask this a few days ago, but if it's not too nosey, can I ask what a rabbit costs there?
  14. Seeing this wonderful book and the drawings made me think I had something similar...I've dug through a short stack of my stuff, but not all of it yet. I might only be thinking of the following booklet....it reminds me of his type of illustration. No where in the book does it give any credit to who drew it, but it was done in 1924. (excuse the staining...someone must have gotten messy while making their salad dressing lol)
  15. I find it disturbing that the woman on the cover has no shoulders or upper arms lol...... Any rabbit recipes in there?

    Dinner 2021

I had bigger plans than what actually happened yesterday (major internet problems that after I worked for three hours and gave up, magically fixed themselves on their own 🙄). I did, however, find a red towel to be festive in support of Ronnie's Chiefs....I guess that didn't help the outcome at all . Little smokies and onion dip with Ruffles. Ribs and potato salad. And a lot of head shaking at the poor playing of the above mentioned team lol.
  18. Oh gosh, he does rabbits in the blink of an eye. Probably 5 to 7 minutes max.
  19. You mean the guts, fur etc? Our outside cats have made themselves a nice little place up in the landing of a big outbuilding that we have. So bits like that go up there for them. Treats for everyone!

    Breakfast 2021

    But they sure are pretty!
  21. It's been bitterly cold here and it's been lightly snowing for three days now! It's 9 F right now but it feels like -7 F. Supposed to snow all day today too (won't be much accumulation but I'll take what I can get). Ronnie took a drive through the fields that surround our house yesterday. And with his trusty Remington 22 rifle was able to get a rabbit. Even a very light snow cover makes it easier to hunt rabbit. They show up better and you can see their tracks. It's a mature male (buck). Rabbits are very easy to clean. First remove the head: Then peel the skin/fur from the meat Clear down to the ankles Snip the feet off The (un)lucky rabbits foot Cut the tail off Next your ready to take the guts out. Here is where lovers of commercially bought rabbit will want to cry. You never want to eat the liver etc. of a wild rabbit. Not good. Similar to a deer, run your knife through being very careful not to nick or catch any of the innards Gently pull the guts down and out Always remember to snip this tendon at the bottom to get the last remainder--it hides under there. All clean My go-to rabbit recipes are both fried. Either fry and cover with a homemade mushroom sauce and bake low and slow, or fry and then pressure cook. I'll be looking both online and in my cookbooks to see if I can find something else that trips my trigger and I'd love to have ideas from you guys! Keep in mind, wild rabbit is MUCH tougher than commercial ones. He's resting in my fridge....I'll be doing something with him either tonight or more likely tomorrow. So, any ideas?

This doesn't look like much, but it was. I got some lamb in my Imperfect box yesterday. Ronnie really likes lamb....me, well, I've had some that I like and some that I very much dislike. Don't ask me what cuts but if you forced me I'd say they were all chops. Why would I like some and find others very off-putting? I don't know. Anyway, Ronnie was quite surprised to find out we were having lamb stew last night. OH it was GOOD. The lamb was so tender. Maybe I'm a real grown-up now and I like lamb????? I have started liking coffee more..... Served with just out of the oven warm bread and lots of butter.
  23. I continue to be very very grateful to be able to get delivery. It's kept me out of the store a LOT more. I'm low on milk, but I have some frozen so it's allll good Imperfect today: Like @Smithywas saying on her princess mobile thread that she had no idea her husband liked cauliflower so much....I had no idea that Ronnie likes leeks so much. So I bought more. He wants soup. He also loves lamb...which isn't my favorite, but I saw this and decided to get it to make lamb stew. It's going to be bitterly cold here starting today. Highs of 12F lows below zero.
