Your Daily Sweets: What Are You Making and Baking? (2017 – )
Shelby replied to a topic in Pastry & Baking
I LOVE POUND CAKE!!!!! I have a memory....we had just moved to Colorado and were in this cabin....house...thing...lol. It was cold and I was just unsettled. Grammy and Grandpa came with us to help. She laid out a Sarah Lee pound cake. I LOVED it. I don't remember if there were toppings...I'm sure there were....but man, that cake was good. -
It varies....but probably around 6 to 8. It's fun to dig them up...like Easter egg hunting.
-
I can only get Misfits. I'd still do both if I could.....Imperfect quit delivering to my area.
-
Wow. I love rhubarb. 200 lbs????? And more to come I assume. I've tried to grow it here. It just doesn't work.
-
What is it?

Cool. So I could pick the green tomato things and just keep them in the fridge until next spring?
-
They say that if you pick the flowers off, the potatoes will be bigger....I'm not sure about that. After they flower they sometimes produce a green ....kind of a green tomato looking thing--not edible. I'll try to remember to take a picture. The flowers don't last long so I'm not sure anything pollinates them at all.......You dig the potatoes after the plants start to die off.

Accommodating/combating housekeeping differences in the kitchen

I barely managed to keep my mouth shut. She also had the whole family over for dinner while we were gone. I didn't even host huge family dinners. She did, years later, admit to Ronnie that she probably shouldn't have done all that lol. -

Last weeks: The soups were 2 for 99 cents. I couldn't resist. Ronnie will eat these for lunches in his man-garage. The little pickles are good. Yesterday: I cut up the peppers and vac packed them. They are handy to pull from the freezer. Coleslaw will be used to make egg rolls soon.

Accommodating/combating housekeeping differences in the kitchen

Years ago we went out of town and my mother and father in law came to house sit. She decided that my kitchen "wasn't arranged right" and proceeded to move everything around. Everything. Then she cut up the rubber mat thing that I had that was amazingly helpful for me to open jars with. She cut it into strips and stood decorative plates on the strips so they wouldn't slip. That was the last time house sitting from them happened lol. -
That pasta looks so good. I am a shishito-head. There is a fine line between the blistering and burning for sure. I like to blister them, turn the heat off and put a lid on the pot for a bit. Then sprinkle with sea salt and squirt fresh lemon juice all over. Makes them a bit more tender imo. I don't eat them raw. I will say that the ones we grew in the garden had way more taste than the ones that I've bought at the store. Mine were hotter, too. Catching up. Getting a lot of nice radishes from the garden. Made a roasted mushroom salad Turkey sandwiches Lasagna No plated pictures because it fell apart like a big mess. Fried chicken on Sunday Ronnie grilled some lamb chops for Memorial Day. Asparagus, potatoes and breaded tomatoes on the side. Lemon posset for dessert Felt like eating Asian-ish..but wanted salad so I made two along with some potstickers Pork noodle salad Asian chicken salad My cleaning angel brought me another huge bunch of her delicious strawberries. Heavenly. I made some vanilla ice cream in the Ninja Creami Ronnie went fishing on Thursday and came home with more lovely walleye. Also a crappie and some bass. As he was leaving the lake the game warden informed him the lake and the campgrounds were closed indefinitely due to blue-green algae. So, no more fishing at his favorite lake. So sad for all of the campers too. Anyway, walleye for dinner last night along with some mustard greens from the garden.

Chances for storms the next few days. Won't have to water for a while lol.

Before I scrolled down I stared at your sandwich for a loooooong time thinking maybe you had left the plastic on a piece of cheese 🤣

Beautiful Kay! I'm jealous of your squash. Craving it and it will be a while before we get any. We got over 5 inches of rain over the last two days. Garden is wet to say the least. One cucumber plant died on me. sigh.

The white (I think they are called icicles???)ones are spicy. I just ate one. I have cooked the greens and I do like them. I like roasted radishes too....need to make those soon.
-
@weinooRusset potatoes? Those look awesome. @Kim ShookI used this recipe for the cake. Easy and good. I really would have liked to make your angel food cake, but....I didn't get off my duff early enough lol. The last of the potstickers with an Asian chicken salad Ronnie smoked a small pork roast and then I SV'd it for BBQ pork sandwiches and potato salad I'm like @kayband enjoy my potato salad room temp or warm. This was a particularly good batch for some reason. Breakfast again. Made a ton so Ronnie would have something to eat before he went fishing the next morning. Another good catch. One keeper walleye. Had enough to give some to my cleaning angel. First radishes from the garden Salad Fried fish again--it's just so good lol. Next day was @JAZ's chicken piperade again with some asparagus Last night was venison cheeseburger pizza The last of the peony flowers for this year

Before we moved to Colorado when I was in first grade, the school I went to had a mulberry tree on the edge of the playground. That's where I had my first ones. So very good. I'm sure the teacher wondered why I came back from recess with purple all over me lol.
-
No merguez available for me today. Nor did they have anything but Tommy Adkins mangos.
-
Thanks so much for doing that. Hopefully it helps save some steam boys and girls 😁
-
I forget. Can you buy them in markets over there? Here I've never seen them sold but I don't get out much. We have to compete with raccoons and bugs lol.
-
Drooling. That looks so good. Our mulberry trees look to maybe have a good year. Fingers crossed we will have some in a month.
-
I keep it bookmarked for myself in case I forget how I did it lol.
-
Happy Anniversary!!!! Thank you for taking us with you

My shopping window opens tomorrow so I'll look for the sausages. I think we'd like them. I got some lamb chops from them yesterday. I'm saving them for Mem. Day weekend. Ronnie loves lamb...I'm kind of iffy at times. We will see if I like this lol.
