  1. Would this be due to the affluence of the area and their ability to buy the medications that keep them this way? oh sure, let's make fun of the dumb guy.
  2. do you own stock in America? No, I don't, but its a kickass restaurant just the same, which is why I recommend it so often. ah. sorry. i was acting like an ignorant tool for a moment. my bad.
  3. do you own stock in America?
  4. so 2% milk is something horrible?
  5. i don't remember it as being cramped and noisy at all. from what i've seen, it's a largely well-heeled, older crowd. latour is another good fit (not totally quiet, but easy enough to carry on a converstation), but i just don't like the place. they don't try hard enough. enjoy. edited for being a heel.

    What with the Nachos?

nachos can be pretty filling. how about starting with a mexican-inspired chicken soup with avocado, shredded chicken, rice, cilantro, and a squeeze of fresh lime juice? in fact, i think *i'll* make that tonite.
  7. i bet the ho-ho-kus inn is quiet. nevery been though. cafe matisse in rutherfood isn't too loud either. byo. chef's table, in franklin lakes, is quiet and quite good. classic french stuff. byo. edit: hehe, i said "rutherfood."

    What with the Nachos?

champage is friends with fat (cheese, ground beef).

    Gustavino's

hehe. mikestan, i don't hear too much about this place, outside of egullet or on egullet. my suspicion is that you're not being ignored, but rather no one here has much experience with the place. nice room, though.
  10. Canned corn better than fresh? Shudder... the various varieties of "summer fresh" or "summer crips" canned corns are quite good. and available all year round, anywhere.

    TDG: Contrarian Wine

i've been drinking gruner veltilner, thinking that it *has* to make me cool. schiekle, listen to what your uncle mamsters says. don't discount chardonnay. hating new world chardonnays, however, is fine, and highly recommended. edit: "new word"?
  12. went to el grand mexican, again. seems like the perfect place to go when you have no plans. and no friends. i think i like the skirt steak the tacos the best out of all of the tacos. the chicken might come in at #2, although it's pretty close btwn the chix and the pork.
  13. i think BK nukes *every* cheeseburger, if not every burger. it has nothing to do with preparing for a rush. it's just the procedure. steamed burgers are great. white castle has made a career out of it for 60 years or so.
  14. "hate thread" alert. buckle up.
  15. i'm not sure that the demographics presented here are really in line with their target. i know for a fact that my friends and associates who love TVFN are well out of their 20's and spend much more money than those in their 20's. so i suppose the people who are running this major network, and ultimately answer to stockholders, know what they're doing. it seems that you can't please all of the people all of the time. i bet they figured that out already.

    New Zealand Wines

yikes. the perceived acidity of NZ SB is so high, i can't imagine it getting much worse.
  17. you just should wait until the bill is presented and proclaim "*we* are splitting it evenly, thanks for joining us."
  18. i *love* nori. there's nothing quite as satisfying as holding a hand roll that's wrapped in crispy (not soft or god forbid, soggy) nori. i crush it up in soups, and crush it up in chopped up raw tuna, when making tartare with an asain or japanese influence. i love nori.
  19. extra virgin olive oil, and a sauce made primary of olive oil, parlsey, and garlic. popular in south america (argentina). not in that order.
  20. i had a very good meal at emeril's, and a so-so meal at nola. i usually recommend emeril's and tell people to not bother with nola. in fairness, though, i've only been to eat once. it's tough to judge a place with one trip. i recall the portions for the tasting menu at emeril's being ridiculously large (not a completely horrible thing) and the service being relaxed, friendly, and efficient. i'd return.
  21. any food company that claims to make food "swing american" is probably best left in ones pantry.
  22. i feel like i've been stuck in the twilight zone for the past 6 days.
  23. it's wednesday. where should i go to dinner? regards, tommy
  24. and that means it's good too, because everyone knows that chinese people have really good palates.
