  1. as far as i can tell, they *did* get worse! no soapbox here, but i'm amazed that anyone cares that he didn't get his 3rd cheeseburger.

    Dinner! 2003

fettucini with a mushroom broth, finished with truffle butter.
  3. How petty. yeah. poor guy.
  4. i'm in good company.
  5. john the hotdog guy is still "John". his sig is "hot dog john", which is obviously completely wrong, as i dubbed him "john the hot dog guy." i'd prolly be interested. the complete lack of beer at a pig roast (as it will be in a public park where drinking is prohibited) seems very sad indeed. someone needs to volunteer their backyard.
  6. i assume you won't be drinking? 25 pp really won't get you anything "nice" in bergen or the area even without alcohol. you're looking at 12 dollar entrees and 6 dollar apps and a soda for 25 dollars. edit: what rosie said.
  7. no one was complaining back in 1983 when Hill Street Blues started doing it.
  8. at this point, everyone has used that cod dish. although i've never seen it with foie gras but at nobu, and apparently morimoto. but yes, i wonder who "invented" it, if that word is even applicable.
  9. So theres a hot dog inside the crust? yes! i don't...know what to say.

    Cauliflower soup

johnjohn brings up a valid point. i won't get into the whole "how does presentation affect taste" discussion, as i don't have that kind of time, but it's very applicable here. perhaps a bit of roasted cauliflower puree, or just bits, in the middle when serving might add a nice roasted flavor, but at the same time leave the pure white presentation in tact. smart people you are.
  11. what are you looking for as far as price range, atmosphere, etc.
  12. if it's still on the menu, have the cauliflower (?) flan.

    Cauliflower soup

i didn't find any threads on cauliflower soup. thoughts? the usual suspects (onion, butter, stock), but should i roast the cauliflower? if anyone says "only if you want roasted cauliflower soup" i'll berate you behind your back. any interesting twists on this soup? i've had a cauliflower soup at Union Pacific in NYC twice in the past few weeks, and i'm now inspired. it's quite good there.
  14. they mentioned the corn bread. we never do. we should.
  15. clearly you're describing scuttlebutt's, in nutley.
  16. where shall i meet you?
  17. busboy, they tried banning drinking. they failed. and you do have a say: you can vote.
  18. what about offices? people used to sometimes smoke in offices. i suppose they should have continued to allow this, as people were making the choice of working with smokers indoors? the mackerel analogy was just plain ridiculous. sorry.

    Chicken Thighs

Do you have a recipe you can share tommy? nope. none that are mine. they tend to vary. some, gasp, don't even have cinnamon!!

    Chicken Thighs

moroccan-influence chicken tagine is kinda fun, and easy. i get a little silly with the cinnamon.
  21. I'm just getting started.

    Wine and Cheese

HA! that was the funniest thing i've seen here in a while. and this is the coolest idea i've seen in a while. luckily wilfrid clued me in to this thread over a pint last night. i had been ignoring it as i figured it was just another thread with 3 people arguing about "right" way to enjoy wine and cheese. i'm very pleased, and excited, to see that i was wrong. i'm in.
  23. 2 out of the 4 "bars" that i happened upon last night were still allowing smoking. they were playing the "owner operated" card. halfway through the performance of a decent-to-good band at the mercury lounge, the singer took an unscientific poll of how many prefered the non-smoking law. the overwhelming majority of the 20/30 something trendsetting-in-their-own-mind record label employees attending this particular show seemed to prefer the law. perhaps the results were skewed, however, as the smokers were all outside the front door puffing away and were not available during the poll.
  24. thanks sandra. it is in fact good to see that my memory is accurate. weinoo, as you've stated, don't rush there.
  25. i thought the place was just horrible. Amateurish service. i forget the specifics, but one dish was simply inedible. one of the few meals where i walked away and felt horrible that i spent the money (over 100 for 2 people). that's based on one visit. multiple visits to the bar side have been pleasant enough, with several non-chardonnay and non-merlot selections. nice room. flowers and whatnot.
