  1. you just saved me a trip. my friends, who lived in Lickmysack for some time, never said anything good about it. i'll put my money on Kinchley's. and 201, they have really cheap beer there, which, you know, is a good thing.
  2. lou, as an owner who offers corkage, do you have any expectations as to what type of wine someone might bring? i mean, i'm sure you offer some sort of zin for 25 or 30 bucks. if a patron brought in the same bottle (which he or she could buy at a wine shop for 8 or 10 bucks) would you be offended? i realize that this would be in poor form, but i'm just wondering as i've heard people suggest that they'd bring something that is clearly offered on the list to a restaurant. clearly, i'd only bring something special (which this member thinks is "special," but other well-dined, well-traveled members might find pedestrian - not that a member has to have knowledge of wine that surpasses or even matches that of other members who may be more well traveled, not that anything is wrong with either member to this member, but might be expected if a member chooses to bring a bottle to an establishment that under normal circumstances offers equivalent - not necessarily price-wise but perhaps )....?
  3. can i go back to hating everyone now? jeez, that really took a lot out of me. i gotta call my lawyer. he says that you *both* are wrong.
  4. I've only been to Park and Orchard for lunch (once) after hearing a Manhattan based friend rave about it. I think glop just about sums it up nicely, at least for the lunch menu. It's only a five minute walk from my house but I never think to try it again (after finally trying the Village Gourmet in Rutherford again, a two minute walk from my house..... I put in the same class as P&O but at least it's moderately priced and not pretending to be anything haute. Will havve to try Sonoma when the GF is back in town and I can justify a nice meal out. phaelon, let's not bash P&O and the Village Gourmet specifically. let's fact it, the only good think about the dining scene in Rutherford is Mignon and the Korean place. ...waiting for abuse...
  5. egullet has become so trite, filled with petty comments these days. whatever will we do.
  6. oh ladies...
  7. can't speak for luger's, but you'll be hard-pressed to find a bar that allows smoking. there are, however, a few, which might have been mentioned in this thread. get used to the sidewalk!
  8. when i was a kid, we used to take trips down to balitmore. i vaguely remember a huge pizza-type place right over what i assume was a bridge btwn NJ and Delaware. my memory says that it was right over the bridge and on the right. it was there for years. i recently returned to baltimore, and i figured i'd see that same pizza-type place. however, much to my chagrin, there was nothing in the place where i expected it to be. in fact, the area looked nothing like i remembered it, so it's quite possible that either 1) i was remembering the wrong bridge 2) i made this all up in my head as a bored child in the back of a car for 3 hours. does anyone know what this might have been, and if it might have been? any help would be appreciated.
  9. dinners, unfortunately, are all booked up for this visit. my only real free time will be in the early to mid afternoon on the thursday i arrive. so, with that said, any takers could PM me for the date...
  10. there are a few threads on this for sure, but... Brooklyn's Pizza, in Hackensack, has a very good thin crust pie. they have stores in edgewater and ridgewood as well. the ridgewood store is BYO. the hackensack store, which is the original, is far superior as far as i understand. it's not BYO, and they have really crappy chianti for 16 bucks a bottle. Kinchley's in ramsey also makes a great thin crust pie. although, it's not as "fresh" tasting as brooklyn's. both are kid-friendly. kinchely's is a zoo before 8 PM because of this.
  11. knowing the NJ zagat, it'll probably say the same thing!
  12. i need to arrange my flight. if anyone is interested in meeting up on a thursday in june for a late-ish lunch (or even midafternoon if you're not a 9-5'er), PM me. otherwise, i'll take a later flight. and i've pretty much decided on trio.
  13. the use of oak chips, to me, suggests that the wine "maker" isn't going to use judicious amounts of oak, regardless of what the juice might need, and without regard for the final product, unless, of course, his/her goal is a final product that is overly oaked.

  21. the picture of the Yankee Stadium has almost brought tears to my eyes. putting aside the brilliant quality of the photo, the sandwich is a work of art. the colors, the textures, i want to eat my fucking screen. is it ok to say that? "eat my fucking screen" i mean? because i do. want to that is.

    Dinner! 2003

grilled rack of lamb with a spice rub. ok, i admit, it was col. klink's spice rub. and, ok, i admit, it's been in tuperware for about 4 months. but, it still had flavor and made a nice dish. seared over high heat and then set in the back, finished with indirect heat. long grain rice. roasted brussels sprouts. so freaking good these things are. i think i could live on them.
  23. yeah, a few of those are ok.

  25. Route 17 yo, paramus park is a mall. paramus is a town. it's in the mall, apparently, to answer lrn's question...unless the question was where *exactly* in the mall is it.
