  1. not the belmont? i think i remember that they used to be related? oh there's a thread somewhere about that. perhaps i should look it up. thanks for the recs, everyone. there are more ideas here than i expected.
  2. my charm is near-irresistible. you know it. i know it. that's just what it is. now back to my dinner plans. i was considering chicken savoy at what i assume is the Belmount tavern in what i assume is bloomfield or one of the Oranges.

eff me that sounds good! i still gotta figure out where montvale is.
  4. virtually every single california roll i've ever had, at sushi restaurants, is made with this. i quite like it. pre-ground black pepper and non-kosher/sea salt on tables, or in food, should be banned.
  5. i thought the idea was to ban all americans.
  6. please hand in your badge, as you have to forfeit your "expert" status immediately. and no expert PM's from you for a one month period. regards, Expert Police.
  7. that's a ridiculous analogy. i experience about a 4-5% defect rate. most bottles i drink are btwn 8 and 20 dollars, and generally no more than 4 or 5 years old (with 80% or so being 1 to 3 years old). i byo quite a bit (not because i'm bringing something unique and special from my cellar, but rather because my area has a lot of restaurants that don't sell wine), and as craig said, i often bring a backup, which is a hassle. although it's not as much of a hassle as when i *don't* bring a backup and i need one. screwtops are fun. synthetic corks are fine. it's all about the wine.
  8. this is *not* a game. this is serious. if you're not on board with this, then i suggest you find another doll house in which to play.
  9. lou, phaelon, let's get back on topic, could we please? it's thursday. where should i go to dinner. the world, or at least, NJ, is my oyster.
  10. you know, the *last* time we pushed our name higher on the list awbrig found us. let that be a lesson to you all.
  11. rozrapp, it was "rustic". i guess that's why i thought "farmhouse." this is back when i was in college, so clearly my memory is spotty. i'm guessing 88 or so. was it there then?
  12. well rozrapp and lamb, maybe i'm getting it confused with another place. the name sorta rang a bell. i just remember it being a few different rooms, which is what i meant by "farmhouse." not one big one for sure. i think i got the wrong place.
  13. It's my understanding that if a business invests in making improvements of any kind, the cost is tax deductible. Perhaps that will be the case here. yeah, it would have been tax deductible anyway. but they don't get back the money that they put into a special room that will never be used for its intended purpose.
  14. oh my god, i totally forgot about this place. is this the place that was in a big old farmhouse of sorts??
  15. i'm telling you, it's gone. the smoke was holding the place together. i swear. only one way to find out i 'spose...
  16. edited, as it wasn't in the spirit of the thread.
  17. No, I firmly disagree with that. Some of the best Ice Cream and Gelato experiences I have ever had have centered around mint chocolate chip flavors. well you see, that's where you're wrong. seriously, most chocolate/mint applications fall short. i mean, i'll put a piece of fresh mint on *anything*. but that chemical tasting mint stuff, in bad chocolate, just isn't worth it.
  18. when the smoke cleared, 27 people (that's ~ 107 teeth for those keeping count) realized that Jimmy's had vaporized along with the smoke. they were left holding only memories and empty mugs... on another note, it's next to impossible to find matches anymore. i mean, you used to take matches for granted. i bet even non-smokers have matchbooks from various restaurants and bars. one has to think that this tradition might disappear over the next few years, at least in NYC.
  19. I agree re chocolate/mint. they shouldn't be together. ever. carry on.
  20. *what* is a special and is often available. my assumption is that they're *all* special. my point was that they're available many months out of the year that they shouldn't be.
  21. oh boy, what did i start!
  22. integrity: Moral soundness; honesty; freedom from corrupting influence or motive; -- used especially with reference to the fulfillment of contracts, the discharge of agencies, trusts, and the like; uprightness; rectitude.
  23. they have one that i don't think is listed anywhere. it is topped with fried basil. quite delicious. wondee's did serve these well after the season was over, so i'm assuming they are frozen, and might very well be frozen even when *in* season. but, they're good.

cabrales, my comment wasn't necessarily intended to open a discussion, but rather to shed some light on why certain posters, and admins, might read your posts a certain way. sort of a public service announcement.

i was speaking to your dialog with fat guy, not to VIP treatment in general. i've already posted that VIP treatment is a good thing. i think we agree on that, yes?
