  1. @Katie Meadow tree cutting down: People object to the mess Also many people are allergic to the pollen - respiratory allergy. If you dormant spray them you have expense and folks object to wholesale spraying. As a kid a neighbor did the lye thing. I was not impressed - put me off olives for a long time.
  2. PS to @wibago An example of a during and after. Not pretty. And these people worked in picky places
  3. I have worked in commercial interior construction and have remodeled 3 personal kitchens. A week? In your dreams. Especially a complete gut. Are you working with a designer or architect? There are issues might not think of and cost over runs can be quite distressing. Pictures and a description of your goals would help.
  4. My couple incidents fall into "trust your nose and your instincts" territory. Sold my home way quicker than expected, Global Financial Crisis, no rush to invest - SO I moved to an Extended Stay America hotel. Nice, walking distance to Korean market and Farmers Market, dog friendly (100 lb. dog was issue with renting). So raw shrimp from Korean market, some leftover takeout from the corner. Hhmmm didn't smell right. I finally called the maintenance guy and oh yes my fridge temp was not good. They brought me a new one right away. The other goof was items disappearing. Turns out when a friend helped me do a wipedown of the interior she put a big shelf in backwards so small items slid behine shelf and back wall. Opaque shelf so hard to see. I never told her cuz gosh if a friend helps at that level no need to make her feel bad,
  5. Wow that black/dark bread selection is great. Reminds me of something a herd tender would put in his Ruksack along with some of the dried/cured meats to sustain himself all day taking the flock to best grazing. I can almost smell that cured meat scent. Walking into such shops (my Madeleine moment) in Ajaccio. Again compliments on your black & whites - great light captures.
  6. Thank you for the wonderful finale to your trip. Always enjoy the food. The whales! Los Angeles Times today reported on odd whale behavior (Killer Whales) boat bashing etc. in Europe - Iberian Peninsua. Experts puzzled. Think they are playing and not being aggressive to injure but their size - things happen.
  7. I have enjoyed these vacuum packed shelf stabe ones from Trader Joes https://www.amazon.com/Trader-Joes-Marinated-Olive-Lemon/dp/B013PV1U72
  8. Cool. Joi de Vivre - isn't that the point. He is cute too
  9. Sun not a good plan. As others note - in a fruit bowl with others like bananas andappes can speed. It is a fne point wikth oeaches. I gol by mell rather than softness.
  10. I snack on these all day year round. Firm sweet/tart, taste like a tomato. Roast up or blister nicely for a sauce. I get twitchy when supply in huse is low https://www.ralphs.com/p/private-selection-petite-cherry-snacking-tom,atoes/0001111091192?fulfillment=PICKUP

    Dinner 2023

@weinoo The New Yorker discussed the Marcella onion a few years ago https://www.newyorker.com/culture/kitchen-notes/dont-throw-away-the-marcella-hazan-tomato-sauce-onion
  14. Works best eaten on newspaper covered picnic table folowed by a run through the sprinklers with the kids
  15. Hhmmm None of the ones I've had were cleaned up so no slitting or cutting etc. The deep fried ones - were all abbout the crunch with just a sweet hit from the flesh. I've just now remembered the ones that freaked me in Corsica as a 12 year old. Those eyes!. Simply boiled in a flavored broth. Usually small lobsters and mussels also involved. And lots of good bread for dunking.
  16. In the U.S. that term is associated with berry based sweeter/fragrant vinegars. Odd as grapes are clearly fruit. But - language can be odd.
  17. I'd check it out from the library but don't think I'd purchase it. The bits in the review were nothing new to me. Perhaps my negativity stems from my dislike of "best of" types of food categpries. I also think food love is so often memory and nostalgia based so when an "outsider" tries it they can wonder "why???"
  18. You want something to write notes in to comment on added recipes or add info. But not an on-line collection like @Kim Shook http://www.recipecircus.com/recipes/Kimberlyn/ I just do 3 ring into plastic sleeves because for some recipes I like the origin document.
  19. In don't see the benefit or need for olive oil. Otherwise - go for it.
  20. My local Ralphs has an aisle facing freezer with the glass doors filled with enticing chubs of .......pet food. To the right frozen seafood, to the left sweets. Wonder how many senirs have had a dinner surprise..

    Breakfast 2023

A side note on the scent of all day breakfast diners. Yup that is what the house smelled like yesterday Stepmother got an odd rrrecipe from a friend. Chicken breasts.Dijon mistard, maple syrup and tapioca . 3!!! hours in the crockpot. She substituted some syrup so lacking in true maple they did not call it imitation - rather "BUTTERED pancake syrup" , It also had a burnt smell cuz she left it too long.
  23. I gave myself permission to get some chips when I went to market today if semi reasonable price. Ended up with this Lay's Cuban. Very odd but oddly addictive. The chemicals they used to mimic pickle and ham???? bit jarring at first. Won't buy again but an adventure.
  24. Well we didn't have rice noodles. But mostly it is a generic label for a dish with variations - noodles, vegetables, sauces - filling and cheap. (like chop suey). The authenticity train generally crashes in my experience when we factor in migration and ingredient avaiability.

    Salad 2016 –

My dad snarked at his wife the other day for putting dill pickls in their regular green salad w/ Ranch. So this marked down kit today caught my eye. We shall see.
