    Lunch 2023

Not pool weather here but I am zooming to kitchen to smake some version of hot honey roasted brussels sprouts - thanks - I needed inspiration
  2. @weinoo That is cool on the cemetaries. I did a gravestone/monument project couple hours north of here that had a lot of Italian vineyard worker plots. Many referenced the vine and wine. Wonder if the bagel ones have similar references.

I had to look up woodruff in food. Interesting. Green is my fave color . How would you describe the taste?
  5. Wow -cool thought it was a Pride cake at first.
  6. @Annie_H you eat well and in my style. Gotta love the chopper cheese,. Nothing says good cheese like a chopper bike (???)
  7. @rotuts if you notice the hand washing methods of some it is like the mask wearing technique of others - practically a joke. Did you see Serious Eats article on fish grades the other day? https://www.seriouseats.com/how-to-prepare-raw-fish-at-home-sushi-sashimi-food-safety
  8. I thought the "previously frozen" takes care of parasite issue?

    Dinner 2023

You had me at the collard side. A large thick corn tortilla would have really done it.
  10. Or this poop process which we discussed somewhere https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kopi_luwak I am so not in the game I will drink NesCafe
  11. The rooster can hardly take the credit
  12. @Darienne you may also want to consider the type of tahini you are using. https://www.tastingtable.com/1043790/types-of-tahini-explained/#:~:text=Raw tahini%2C because it hasn, nutrients have been cooked away.
  13. I paid $6/doz at Ralphs this week
  14. UCLA Medical Center. Pre Northridge earthquake so the old facility. https://dailybruin.com/2017/05/04/throwback-thursday-how-the-1994-northridge-earthquake-affected-ucla More corridor lengths than the Pentagon they said. Gotta say the cafeteria had decent food. Their collard greens on a rough day with rice - comfort. Sweets - not so much. My alma mater though - cross town rival USC had a Linzer cookie, ground nut sandwich with a tart jam. With giant coffee did you for a long day of lectures.

    Breakfast 2023

The Seattle Times article looks like the NYT original. https://www.seattletimes.com/life/food-drink/gochujang-is-so-much-more-than-a-condiment/ OOPS same directions Anna already linked fom elsewhere. Soooo maybe the real deal.
  16. That is great. I used to do my big bake for Christmas gifting and had a pretty large list of folks that looked forward to their trays. Then I heard many were inundated at Christmas especially in large offices. Client/vendor stuff. So I switched to random gifting when it is unexpected. Now it is just the guards, fire tation, IT guys, amd a handful of friends. It has been mazing how the treats cemented (sweetened) long relationships. I had a hard time with the facilities maintenance guys at a large hospital (a male/female thing) - the baked goods really sweetened up their attitudes.
  17. At fist glance I thought "sesame seed, poppy, plus tahi=ni?" Then the "duh" hit - tahini is made from sesame. Mostly I now have a craving for the poppyseed cake made with the SOLO product - very moist and loaded with seeds.
  18. We know some genes may be dormant/sleeping and the possible interactions not mapped - but on this forum, in this context - changing a plant flavor is not on the same scale- in my not expert undertanding.
  19. We've been playing with genetics for a long time. I think most kids in school are introduced to Mendel. https://www.nature.com/scitable/topicpage/gregor-mendel-and-the-principles-of-inheritance-593/

    Lunch 2023

I'd love to go exploring/shopping in some of your freezers!
  21. The Space X explosion was almost funny because not unexpected. It was data gathering. No creatures harmed. https://www.google.com/search?q=spaceX+explosion+not+surpriseBut in general I understand that scientists conduct experiments, record data, make adjustments. Clinical trials on animals including humans are closely monitored and need to be done before exposing general population. Two different populations As to FOOD - the originally brought up gene editing - money making drives all kinds of somewhat odd research to promote product appeal. The CRISPR technology has vast possible uses.https://www.npr.org/transcripts/974751834
  22. Gosh I've never considered it hot. More light red pepper with some sweet and funk. It is cheap. What dishes is she interested in? Maybe have her grab a red tub and taste test. Better than guessing what hot means to you guys with varying taste buds.

    Breakfast 2023

Incredibly appealinsg as I have not had breakafast yet (plumber shut off water). Do you make fresh batter each time or make several and freeze?
  24. And as one of my favorite biology professors used to stress - basic research provides the building blocks for advances - what became evident during the pandemic and the unprecedented speed of developing a vaccine, But don't take away my bitter ;.)'
  25. Ooohh looking in need of love and lighr.
