  1. Look what I bought at H-Mart in Cheltenham Pa (near Philly) http://samhae.com/shopping/product_view.as...e=1&gCategory=3 ONIGIRI KITS!!! With a mold and special plastic/nori sheets like you get in Japanese Combini Onigiri! YAY!
  2. Sheena? I bought this a few times and mine did not smell like feet. It was very good. But I love Konnyaku with a passion...
  3. BTW I bought frozen Pandan leaves yesterday and you know what it smells like? BASMATI RICE!
  4. Thank you so much for the Pasture Cake info Peony! Lovely cake. I just bought 2 packs of frozen Pandan leaves.
  5. Good! I ordered some imported McCormick Pandan extracts.
  6. SRHCB? Just so you dont think Im joking with the Pandan/Hay thing: Sensory quality The leaves's aroma is distinct and hard to describe, somewhat nutty, reminiscent to fresh hay and definitely pleasant. A similar scent is found in some aromatic rice varieties grown in South East Asia (e.g., Thai jasmine rice). The scent of pandanus leaves develops only on withering; the fresh, intact plants hardly have any odour. http://www.uni-graz.at/~katzer/engl/Pand_ama.html
  7. No, Pandan is a tropical leaf, supposedly tastes like hay. The Pasture cake tasted like Hay too... :::shrug:::
  8. I bought these at the asian market thinking they were Pandan Cakes. Turns out they are made with dried powdered cow pasture grass. Nevertheless they were yummy.
  9. They make my fingers smell for days.
  10. OMG Diva? you arent JUST a Foodie, but a Food Geek too! LOL Theyve been marinating over 2 weeks. I cut a piece off each lime and cherry.. The lime were yummy, a lil sweet and a hint of lime, same with the cherry. I recommend them highly. The cherry ones would be great chopped in chicken salad.
  11. Update! I just looked and the lime KoolAid pickles have shrunk to half their size in the jar! I dont know what this means...
  12. I made it down to Hung Vuon and the others... Nope. Hmart and Assi are TOPS to me! Washington Ave has little Korean or Japanese ingredients.
  13. Dip 'em in mayo and you gotta total cheeseburger package!
  14. They are delicious!
  15. Okay... 1/ I drove 200+ miles to buy Diet Sparkling Hawaiian Punch and hoarded a case. It was Aspartame Sweetened and went bad in a year... 2/ Oscar Mayer made these single serving sized snacks called Snackables, like a single tater skin, a mini hot dog or hamburger etc... I hoarded those from the Scratch and Dent (that was the same year I go a years worth of Toilet Paper for $2.49!!!!) They all got freezer burn! 3/ I recently dumped out 6 cases of diet soda and diet Fruit 2O that I had in my laundry room NEAR the radiator and had soured! I felt like the biggest jerk about that. Ive come to the realization that you should never hoard food. Buy only what you need and enjoy it. Look at all the waste hoarding cost me!
  16. BTW Im sorry I have yet to deliver on those promised pics of the inside of an American 7-11 and a Wawa. I'll make sure to do that this week...
  17. YAY!!!! I can FINALLY make delicious Konnyaku Jellies/Jell-O at home! I went to Washington Ave in Philly on Saturday and found rare Konnyaku Jelly/Jell-O mix! Pic of the back: http://i6.tinypic.com/4rc67uh.jpg I used 2 liters of water and the entire pack of mix. I used my own food coloring and Williams Sonoma and Wilton flavorings. I made 2 flavors out of one pack, Lime and Cherry. I added Maraschino Cherries to the Cherry flavor. The little bit of unflavored left over IS ACTUALLY elastic! I cant wait. I hope I didnt add too much flavoring and ruin it. I have a sneaking suspicion that the "pure" Konnyaku Powder I bought from Miracle Noodle has something added to allow it NOT to "gel" in the manner of those now banned Konnyaku Jelly Cups. I made this mix the exact same way as the other times with the powder and the glucomannan gelcaps that I opened up and measured the powder exactly.
  18. I never steal! Nor do I taste test produce. I do however try to bag my groceries myself in as few paper/plastic combo bags as possible and I store half the plastic bags in the bathroom closet to empty the wastecan into on Sunday afternoon before I put the trash out that night. The other half go into the bag caddy on my pantry door.
  19. I opened the jar, poured 1/8th out, added 1 cup sugar and a pack unsweetened KoolAid and put the lid on and shook til dissolved, and its steeping for two weeks...
  20. My grandmother didn't make those red apple rings, but she did use red hots to sweeten and flavor her apple butter, so red hots might well have played a role. The apple butter was not, in the end, bright red, but instead a very subtle red, and certainly prettier than plain brown apple butter. ← They still make those Apple Rings http://www.knouse.com/ShopItem.aspx?ProductID=62
  21. Diva? I already am "Brewing" 2 jars! Cherry and Lemon Lime. In two weeks Ill let ya all know! I made em with Claussens.
  22. http://www.nytimes.com/2007/05/09/dining/0...gin&oref=slogin Weird or Yummy?
  23. Blue Curacao flavored Jell-o? with lil pineapple ships
  24. You can get frozen Ajinomoto brand Takoyaki in a pinch
  25. Everything I ever remember reading about the accompaniments to sushi (Gari, Wasabi, Soy Sauce and the Vinegar in the Rice) have said that those arent just for flavor, they are antibacterial and antiparasitic and are eaten with the sushi to make it safe to eat...
