Konnyaku is the dried powder of the "root" (actually corm) of the Konjac plant. It is virtually calorie free/carb free with tons of fiber. It makes all kinds of food including a firmer (imo better) jello. The actual konnyaku jelly mixes are very hard to find as they are illegal. Alsa Gulaman is a jello substitute made of carrageenan (seaweed, Irish Moss) you can get it online at Filipino stores. Alsa Gulaman comes in COLORS, not flavors, you add your own juice or extracts... BTW I have Buko Pandan Konnyaku in my fridge right now with Nata De Coco made with a bit of milk. Yummy.

How about Pina Colada? Buko Pandan? Peach Iced Tea? Dragonfruit? Lychee? Apple Cider Cinnamon? Coffee? Hawaiian Punch w/Mango? Aloe? Blueberry Juice? Blenheims Ginger Ale? Fresca w/Grapefruit? Shirley Temple w/ Club Soda and a jar of Maraschinos? I can go on and on... My fave is lime jello w/ cucumber with onion, dill and sour cream Of course I make most Jellies with Konnyaku or Alsa Gulaman. But Knox is just as good.

I just tasted a sliver, its good. Not spectacular, but good. The banana layer is very thin and isnt fluffy greasy banana cream (like a fake truffle is) its kinda gritty like its got maltodextrin in it - like the center of Nutter Butter WAFER cookies. I just read the ingredients and it has banana flakes.

Im really glad they didnt include Oscar Mayer cause they are horrible. Just nasty consistently. I happen to like the Dietz and Watson and Sabrettes the best. The worst hot dog Ive had was at the summer fair recently. I thought Id buy a corn dog for my son to try, but the fair I go to is going downhill consistently every year, with very shifty people, so the hotdog in the corndog I bought was just screaming to me "Soylent Green is PEOPLE!" It was awful...

There is no clear nutritional info except wildly varying stuff. Some say its as low as 250 per drink, others go as high as 1200. I decided to do some research on the tapioca in pudding and just the tapiocas in pudding are very high... Here are two sites, one stating that its 1000 cals, and the other saying 7 balls = 100 cals http://www.hungry-girl.com/askhg/askhgdetails.php?isid=189 http://www.nutrition.com.sg/atd/atdfood.asp

I know that fenugreek is what they use to flavor fake maple flavor but I did not know that compound is also in real maple syrup. No wonder I still feel "off" after real syrup. I get feverish and fall into a deep lethargic sleep after eating it and am groggy for hours after awaking... BTW what do you know about salmons compounds? I get the same way with salmon. Thank you so much. This has been very informative.

In the store here the noodles labled Yakisoba are glorified ramen http://www.consumatron.com/2006/02/marucha...aki-flavor.html

Hi, I am allergic to Fenugreek/Methi (or highly sensitive to it) its also why Im allergic to fake maple syrup flavoring. But I LOVE Indian Food and wanna cook it. What can I substitute that will give me the general flavor of Fenugreek? I was thinking a mix of ground Fennel and Caraway... What say you?

Is there a way to reduce the fat from fried ramen style noodles? Id love to make Yakisoba leaner. I wonder if I lined my salad spinner with paper towels and spun the noodles after cooking? Are there any whole wheat ramen in Japan?

Sanrensho? I think Torakris posted HER recipe (rustic style) for "Sweet Potato" on this very thread and I have made them her way and they were delicious. Its on the FIRST page of this thread... She also had a pic once of her children making this snack is muffin tins and not the skins...

1/3rd bag Dole Field Greens, 1/3rd bag Dole Butter and Green Leaf. Grape Tomatoes, 1 cup diced Boarshead Golden Classic Chicken (deli) Parmesan. Sometimes scallions. And Ill admit to using bottled dressing. My fave since childhood is Seven Seas Red Wine Vinaigrette. I also love Paul Newmans Honey Mustard. I dont believe in bottled ranch though. Ranch is best made from the dry mix and buttermilk and mayo... Everyone agree?

Furthering my contention that the use of Aspartame has increased ADD/ADHD and Autism... There are those of the population that have Phenylketonuria and cant eat anything with Aspartame. Here are the SYMPTOMS of Phenylketonuria (PKU) Phenylketonuria (PKU) - Symptoms Symptoms of phenylketonuria (PKU) usually develop within a few months after birth, once phenylalanine has built up in a baby's system from consuming the protein in formula or breast milk. Before birth, the mother's body filters out the excess phenylalanine for the unborn baby. If a baby has a severe enzyme deficiency or if PKU is not detected and treated soon enough, phenylalanine builds up in the brain tissue and affects mental skills and the central nervous system. Symptoms can become severe by about 8 weeks of age and may include: * Unusual behavior, such as screaming episodes, repetitive rocking, head banging, and arm biting (common in older children). * Loss of skills and abilities related to severe mental retardation. * Growth and developmental delays. * Seizures. PKU also affects the synthesis of melanin, which provides pigment (color) to the skin, eyes, and hair. About 90% of children with PKU have blond hair, fair skin, and blue eyes.2 Interesting that those symptoms sound just like AUTISM, HUH? AND that they occur MONTHS after birth! Here is another list Symptoms Return to top * Skin rashes (eczema) * Microcephaly * Tremors * Jerking movements of the arms or legs (spasticity) * Unusual positioning of hands * Seizures * Hyperactivity * Delayed mental and social skills * Mental retardation * A distinctive "mousy" odor to the urine, breath, and sweat * Light complexion, hair, and eyes Notice seizures and hyperactivity? As Ive said a friend of my sons who has severe retardation cannot have aspartame due to seizures... Interesting isnt it? But she isnt PKU. Alot of people say that Celiac Sprue is common in families with diabetes. But they never develop diabetes. Same can be theorized with autism or add/adhd and Aspartame usage. Just because someone doesnt have PKU (in my opinion) doesnt mean they dont have something related that hasnt been identified yet. As autism usually occurs months after the birth as does PKU, who is to say what caused it. Maybe a chain of events causes it, but I definitely think aspartame needs to be looked at as a part of that chain, or at least Phenylalanine.
