  2. Guy? You could have a "gimmick" here and you have to work with it!! These strange ideas are what start major food trends...
  3. Rob? You just gave me hope for humanity...
  4. Hi, Something in a politics chat tonight made me think of the small county of Cameron in Pennsylvania. In 1900 it had 5,460 people living in it. In 2000 it had 5,974, so you see it hasnt gotten much bigger. It has 3 schools which serve the entire county. I zoomed in on the county seat in Emporium (the largest town) on Google Earth and I could not locate a Grocery Store! Theres 10 + bars in the county, 5 banks, a Sheetz and a Unimart. Not even a Walmart or a McDonalds! No Grocery Stores in the entire county!!! What do you eat and how do you cook anything in Cameron County or any small out of the way town or place? Do you have to drive 30 to 40 miles to the next town or county to stock up your freezer? What is the point of living in the boonies if every steak or chicken you eat has to be thawed and salads have to be eaten the 3 days after each stock up? I mean Shady Maple (Huge Supermarket) in East Earl, Pa 45 miles away from me near Philly has an awful seafood selection, I can just imagine what its like even further inland. If you live in a small town how do you eat fresh and yummy? Do you live out of your freezer and small garden?
  5. Melon? Thats what I did, I drove to every Asian Mkt in my entire area. Thy had none. I went to the only Japanese mkt and they were the ones who told me there is a ban on milk
  6. Someone in my area has Presidents Choice cause Ive seen it here. I just checked my Genuardis website and they dont have it so now Im wracking my brain trying to figure out where I saw it...
  7. Wait! I always thought Presidents Choice was just another "Store Brand" for Safeway/Genuardi's, like Giant of Pa has Finast brand and Acme now has Essensia... I thought all grocers switched to a gourmet sounding name for their "store brands" to get away from the substandard or no-frills stigma of the ACME or Genuardi's or Pathmark branded merch that started in the late 70s early 80s with the Pathmark "No Frills" brand Am I wrong or am I missing out on some great food? Wait. Im right, look: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Store_brand
  8. How about a brand new holiday tradition? The Fruitcake Tasting Party? 6-8 different Fruitcakes, Wines, Cheeses, Crudite... Bring elegance to the good old fruitcake!
  9. You really should try Al Fresco Chicken Breakfast Sausages. They come in Blueberry and Apple Maple. Very lowfat, but high in flavor. Nice alternative to eggs or bacon or high fat pork sausage.... Plus you dont feel bogged down like you ate sausage.. YUM http://www.alfrescoallnatural.com/
  10. So anyone in the Greater Philadelphia Area finding these anywhere?

    Potato greens

Do the leaves you bought look like this: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/comm...tato_plants.jpg Or this: http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/6018/12...00/IMG_6414.jpg Top: Potato ... Bottom: Sweet Potato

    Potato greens

And yet the idiots at the grocery stores make SURE to put the taters and onions under BRIGHT lights and they are always green prematurely...
  13. I think the point is to help out the Girl Guides / Girl Scouts. Your bag of Double-Stuffed Oreos doesn't exactly contribute to a little girl going to camp. Like when you pay for a poppy.... I'm pretty sure I could find a prettier fake plant for my money. It's the cause in this case that helps justify the means. ← I was referring more to the quality and flavor...Not the charity aspects. However do the research, the actual kids dont get much money. Again, its a racket... "Pricing The price of Girl Scout Cookies is set by each regional council, to be followed by all local troops, and therefore varies by region. They are roughly $2.50-$5.00 a box. The profit from sales is divided amongst three levels within the Girl Scouts organization: the national Girl Scouts of the USA, the regional council, and the local troop of girls. Depending on the price of the box of cookies, the local troop typically receives between 45¢ and $1." Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Girl_scout_cookie
  14. If I want cookies Ill buy DoublStufft Oreos or Milanos or Soft Oatmeal Raisin, not baked paper mache...
  15. Well according to a google search, the FDA wont let it thru due to this: Reason: NEEDS FCE Section: 402(a)(4), 801(a)(3); ADULTERATION Charge: It appears the manufacturer is not registered as a low acid canned food or acidified food manufacturer pursuant to 21 CFR 108.25©(1) or 108.35©(1).
  16. I loved Frusen Gladje, best!
  17. Bree? I think people are reading more into my OP then was intended. I was trying to give a huge hint to the Food Industry to stop labeling foods "Buffalo Style" when all they do is make them HOT. I want the heat, but I also want that vinegary peppery goodness. BOTH are what make up true Buffalo Style Flavor... But I believe that some food manufacturers cut costs and/or try to sell spicy chicken breasts as Buffalo Style, when they are not Buffalo Style at all and it irks me big time... I dont want the blow to be softened btw...
  18. Im afraid to answer that and have Childs fanbase on here come after me with legs of lamb and pizza peels and cleavers! LOL
  19. Hey Im a Durian Virgin too. But Ive put that nasty Huitlacoche in my mouth so that ought to count for something!
  20. I just had Dragonfruit! I liked the texture the most, the lil crunchy seeds etc. Im gonna buy a couple more tomorrow. Hopefully they will still be there
  21. Meryl Streep as Julia Child? Columbia is cooking up "Julie & Julia," starring Streep as the famous chef and Amy Adams as a mastercook wannabe. Read on: http://www.variety.com/VR1117975130.html
  22. My salsa doesnt take 5 minutes, it takes 30 mins. I am anal and only make one kind and it is gorgeous to look at and in order to make it look gorgeous, I must make 8 cups at a time.
  23. Hi People! A lot of the industry reads and posts on eGullet. So I wanna speak directly to them by posing a question to all posters... What makes Buffalo Flavoring, "Buffalo Flavoring"? Just HEAT? Or Heat AND that certain "PEPPER FLAVOR"? I think you all know what I mean by "that certain pepper flavor" right? To me, taking a colorful plastic bag, dropping some frozen precooked chicken breasts in it that have been sprayed with pure capsaisin is NOT Buffalo Flavor. You MUST have the yummy pepper flavor of Frank's or Tabasco... What say you? The reason I ask is that I am so tired of buying so called "Buffalo Style" food, only for it to just have heat, and no flavor! BTW- Are there any low or no heat pepper sauces that have that flavor?
  24. Okay, who in the Philly area can find the McRib?
