wonder of wonders, johnnybird actually got home at a reasonable time yesterday. dinner was lobster roll - the tail meat heated in a little butter then into a toasted hot dog roll, blue cheese coleslaw and a new york strip i did in a pan. dessert was inspired by the fresh raspberries i found at the farmers market - red and black ones. raspberry cobbler... with a piece for lunch today along with some vanilla ice cream

with the husband out of town i can experiment. found this in a local shop a while ago made it with some chicken, scallions, peas and carrots. loved the balance of the curry paste and it was so good i'm afraid i licked the bowl clean

suzilightning replied to a topic in Food Traditions & Culture
unfortunately here in nw nj most of the cherries got wiped out with a late spring freeze. sent johnnybird up to poughkeepsie for a three family get together with figs stuffed with blue chesse then draped with prosciutto and a pan of these -
wow - that chicken teryiaki burger, the thai grilled chicken and the fish are really calling to me. will be single tomorrow so i may need to do one of those. like most of northern new jersey over father's day had this from ShopRite pan seared and oven roasted filet. served thinly sliced with some garlic mashed potatoes and a shallot red-wine reduced pan sauce wednesday's dinner started with this which was used to help create the broth for the clams to open in for a dinner of clam and oven roasted shrimp pasta now it's off to pick up some lobster for lobster rolls and start the baked beans for johnnybird to take up to Poughkeepsie tomorrow... and maybe get some chicken breasts and pineapple or some nice white fish to fry. NOTE TO SELF: DO NOT LOOK AT DINNER THREAD BEFORE GOING TO GROCERY STORE!!!

lately a variation on hot and sour soup - no veg, no pork, no tofu. lots of chicken broth, rice wine vinegar, siracha, cornstarch slurry and two eggs beaten with sesame oil. also did a lentil with plenty of carrots. finished with some sherry vinegar

Also, now I want a hot dog. With squirty can cheese, and all the rest of the glop. I haven't had sqirty can cheese since I was 12, and I like all those condiments, just not at once, on a hot dog. Somehow, the way you talk it up, it sounds fantastic all together. You're a poet. ← thanks, girl... course i'd love to have some of the jack daniels -
What food-related books are you reading? (2004 - 2015)

just picked up this one as well as Sweet Honey, Bitter Lemons: Travels in Sicily on a Vespa by Mattew Fort and Mediterranean Summer: a Season on France's Cote D'azur and Italy's Costa Bella by David Shalleck last night. Just finished B is for Beer by Tom Robbins which was a hoot and am almost halfway through Tom Standages's An Edible History of Humanity by the same guy who wrote The History of the World in Six Glasses - then included a seventh for our future, a book I found very thought provoking. -

and as this thread rages what to my wondering eyes do i see but the Sunday , 7 June Pearls Before Swine. but the defining thing around here isn't so much how the eggs are done or the roll but thepork roll.

TOAST DOPE IT !!! actually the only reason i buy white buns(top cut for hot dogs rolls) is for john's s;o[[y joe fetish and my toasted lobster claw sandwich. freeze the leftovers.

not much cooking but a lot of working around here. after watching the Minneapolis episode of Man vs Food we decided to make Jucy Lucys. The peripherals, except for the carmelized onions then the Lucy oozing warm grated cheddar. (and i did go a bit midwestern by smearing a bit of mayo on one side of the bun) using up some baked shrimp by pairing it with rice angel hair, mixed olives, sundried and fresh tomatoes and a good olive oil. it has been unusually dool and rainy here and john asked for a meatloaf(mainly so there would be leftovers for sandwiches). dinner is served with potatoes two ways - baked and mashed sweet and, in a separate dish, some haricot verts. made a glaze of some dijon, ketchup, vinegar de jerez, and the tiniest bit of lingonberry preserves i had left.

yesterday was gorgeous so, since were were working outside, i decided a small, snacky type dinner would be best oven roasted shrimp with cocktail sauce, chicken salad, cherry tomatoes and hard boiled egg. the rest of the eggs were turned into egg salad for johnnybird's lunch today while i'm at work.

have to work tomorrow but then have sunday and monday off. it's supposed to be nice with the possibilities of thunderstorms each afternoon here in nw nj. a late spring here so not much fresh. unless the johnnybird gets the grill fixed there will be no grilling around here... just hard boiled some eggs for stuffed eggs and some egg salad for himself's lunch tomorrow. did barefoot contessa's baked shrimp for shrimp cocktail and have some cantaloupe to wrap with prosciutto. i'm thinking fried chicken and some nice salads and see if our neighbor and my friend want to stop by. chris, is there fresh rhubarb? how about a rhubarb and raspberry pie? the current Cooking Light has one i'm thinking about trying... and most of all remember why we have this holiday at all.

found St. Germaine in a local mom & pop liquor store. tried a Parisenne martini 2 oz Plymouth gin 1 oz St. Germaine 1/4 oz sweet vermouth shake with ice and serve would dial down the St. Germaine for me by about half but quite tasty for an afterwork chill out drink on the deck with neighbors.
