1/2 a BLT with American cheese on toast. The "discussion" with the person who came to in our bed and wandered out killed my appetite.

Toast with peanut butter and Jersey blueberry jam. All I wanted.

Right now if I'm eating the fruit fresh - straight up, no spices. If I'm using them in a baked element - this time of year think peach cake, blackberry raspberry cobbler - I still use Johnnybird's toast dope. Demerara or organic sugar, nutmeg, orange or lemon zest, allspice and whatever else you want to add.

In grad school (SUNY Albany) a friend, David Wemple, used to meet me each morning as I was making the coffee in the lounge and say : "Mainline me some freeze-dried Folgers"

On other forums I have shared as a kidlet we didn't have a lot of money. We fished, hunted, crabbed, etc. Once a week we had hamburger in some way -smooch, meat sauce or meatloaf; killed a chicken every other week; Pop{the guy who basically raised me - my grandfather} used to take SPAM out of the can, stud it with cloves and bake it. It was our ham. I miss him terribly and although I used to make him liver and onions several times a year as a good grand daughter...I never got it. He enjoyed it and that was all that mattered to me

So with this beastly heat got up early … 0430 or so... split a pound of ground bison in half after sautéing it with some Vidalia onion. half had sautéed yellow and orange peppers added and with some spices, tomato paste and Worcestershire sauce became a sloppy joe for lunch the other half has been made into taco meat for snacking and lunch over the next few days

@Anna N do you have a backup can for those Japanese breakfast sandwiches?
-
John eats all those sprigs - curly or flat. One of the few vegetables this Reed will eat.😒

Can anyone point me to the original discussion about the club sandwich referenced before this thread was slewed off?

last night : 5 Ritz crackers with a reappearance of that Pub cheese but a dozen green grapes rather than pickles.

Just as we pulled out of the last grocery store I spotted a nest on top of a utility pole. Kerry is trying to upload a video to show you what we saw. If she fails we will show you some still photographs. Osprey

Interesting. When John and I did a trip on the Lincoln Highway a few years ago we went through tiny towns in Iowa, Indiana, Kansas where the population (maybe 75 -200 souls) would not support even a small grocery store. Dollar Store or Dollar General - too small for a Walmart, CVS or Riteaid - were the only game in town. Up in the Adirondack Park they have the same problem but have been doing some innovative things to try and alleviate the food desert in the middle of nowhere.

Things have cooled off a bit here and I feel like cooking again. Made John something he asked for he saw in a free magazine called Natural Awakenings. Pasta, potato, green beans with pesto. Add shrimp, please. Tonight I'm trying a recipe from The Prairie Homestead Cookbook: Maple Glazed Porkchops. I'm making potato pancakes, peas and carrots and serving it up with sour cream and applesauce. Tomorrow I have chicken pieces marinating to make Sicky Honey Chicken from the same cookbook. Jasmine rice with pineapple and sautéed baby bok choy for the rest.
