  5. I always hated the airlifts that in good weather was done from the field right next to the library where I worked. Like Radar, for some reason, I heard the chopper longggg before it landed. The worst for me was when the unit was on site and the chopper was waved off. That usually meant a slow trip to whichever funeral home would be taking care of the deceased. At least 3 times it turned out I knew the person …. and it hurt like hell.
  6. looks like someone who is being pulled by a boat like down the shore. with any luck they will splash down gently and not faceplant.
  7. They had the moon ones at our local Shoprite but the dark chocolate ones were back. Had a coupon for $1.00 off of 3 and actually paid full price 😲
  8. OK....the muscle is the white part folk eat. If there is a coral colored piece it is the roe/reproductive parts. When you open scallops you cut the muscle from the top shell, flip the shell back, pull the digestive glands and other "guts" forward and discard; scoop against the bottom shell to pop the muscle free and flip the scallop into the bucket. You do NOT know how many hours I opened scallops as a kid off the East End of Long Island. And please, it is NOT scaahlaps they are scallops

    Dinner 2019

picked up a 6 oz piece of tuna. It is resting in the court bouillon I poached it in. I plan on eating half of it broken up on a green salad with some carrots and onions(it still is pretty humid here). I made some of my Green Goddess dressing to go with it. The other half I plan on flaking to make some fish salad. Part for a sandwich and the rest into that macaroni salad.

    Fruit

The local guy told me these are JUST getting ready to harvest here. Right now they are picking yellow and whites. Another farmer said, because of the cool and rain earlier in the spring, his melons are running a few weeks behind.

Newfoundland is one of the most incredible places I have ever been ….from the wildlife to the food to the natural resources to especially the people. I have been all over the contintental US but I so want to go back. For any of y'all who want to explore and meet great folks....within a short season … please visit!!!!

  18. @ElsieD as I remember a large part of the winery was gift stuff; the tasting area was to the back and the wines for sale were to the right. Then there was the restaurant. Enjoy the concert and look for the human sized lobster trap on your right as you head out of town.
  19. Seems a bit steep to me. I got John some packaged loose blueberry tea in the Auk Island Winery gift shop while he was sampling the product. Can't wait for Twillingate … and St.John's.
  20. Is that Rosie's? Doesn't look exactly like I remember but we took some Moose Farts with us as we headed to the Irish Loop.
  21. Maybe not parrots … but PLENTY of puffins. Breeding colony of about half a million in Witless Bay. I want to go back so much!!

    Dinner 2019

getting a bit muggy again. Up at 6 am for laundry then made jasmine rice and it is cooling in the bottom of the fridge. It will become shrimp fried rice for tomorrow's linner for John. Chicken thighs are thawed and I'm going to make a recipe we have started eating and love: chicken with carrots and tarragon. Yesterday made a version of my friend, Joyce's , mom's potato salad. They were Italian from Brooklyn and opened a boarding house in the summer in Catskill, NY. Connie did all the cooking. Their potato salad was thinly sliced and steamed potatoes, frenched green beans that were also steamed, salt, pepper, olive oil and vinegar. I do the same thing but add a couple of dashes of mixed herbs and celery salt instead of regular. I also made another batch of four bean salad to eat by itself and with sandwiches(for me - John has decided he HATES sandwiches).
