Never seen that one in Canada - will have to watch for it next time I cross the border long enough to bring something back.

We made a stop in Canadian Tire in Espanola enroute to Sudbury - saw a few interesting odds and ends in the kitchen department and the seasonal area. We considered the funky turtle light for our little garden - but opted to leave him. Breakfast from the drive though at Mickey D's. Stop Restaurant Supply had this interesting non electric pizzelle maker this time around. Homesense had a couple of these Tyvek 'brown paper bags'. Also at Homesense - we pulled out this huge coffee table book thinking it was about bread. Purses - some really ugly purses! I guess baguettes are little bags?

So far, so good - but I do admit to being a bigger fan of wheated bourbon.

I saw your post about the Elijah Craig while I was out and about - and was also texting with Lancaster Mike who was suggesting I try to find Eagle Rare 10 year old. I've seen it at the LCBO - perhaps even one of the other ones in town but wasn't prepared to run across town for it at that point. The pickings were slim for bourbon (and gin actually) at this new LCBO - I'm sure in time they will decide what they want to be the experts in.

That's funny - I noticed that yesterday - but didn't get around to fixing it. Perhaps I'd said 1% and got autocorrected - put that in there a long, long, long time ago!

To use our new julep cups and our new bourbon - a Mint Julep with the spearmint growing in our planters on the balcony.

Ok - here is what we returned from Sudbury with - more to follow once we get sort of organized (and a cocktail in our gullets).

Lisabeth wrote a wonderful blog post about our adventures over the past two weeks - check it out here.

Maple Leaf with the last of the bourbon - it's on the list for the liquor store tomorrow - but which brand to buy?

Coconut Impossible Pie for the Wiki nursing home folks. Was seeing the Wiki long term care patients this afternoon so decided I'd run out to the indian taco stand and grab lunch. Asked the kid behind the counter for a taco with the works - meaning sour cream and salsa - but apparently the works to him meant with poutine on the side. Indian Taco (there is a piece of fry bread buried under there). Picture of poutine taken with car underway - didn't get eaten - I'm not that much of a glutton!

Had a visit today from Lisabeth of Ultimately Chocolate and she was kind enough to bring a 3D mold for the experiments. So it's Christmas in July! Dark chocolate, tempered, and placed in EZtemper at 33.8 for a couple of days - before and after stirring. Ditto - white chocolate. Both were quite thick to paint with - but that actually was helpful for preventing a lot of painting outside the lines (something I've been guilty of since kindergarden). First trial with this mold - clearly not a very exciting effect. Better - but not yet perfect. Need to get a better variety of brushes - can see I didn't get into all the crevices I should have.

Lisabeth from Ultimately Chocolate was over to our place today for some dipping advice. So of course we had to have lunch - there is still some nice charcuterie tucked away and of course some wonderful cheeses (thanks Chocolot!). Giant marshmallow on a stick with face paint! Some experiments in using chocolate stored in the EZtemper a la Joseph Schmidt. Christmas in July!

Same one - I've always called it Butterscotch Squares (actually Marg Manchee's Butterscotch Squares cause she's the friend of my moms who was the source of the recipe). They got rebranded Blondies somewhere along the line on eG when someone wanted the recipe and we discussed it on a thread at length I think.
-
Butterscotch Squares Ingredients 1 cup brown sugar ½ cup butter 1 egg 1 cup flour 1 tsp baking powder ½ tsp salt 2 tsp vanilla ½ cup pecans Method Melt butter, add sugar and rest of ingredients. 8X8 inch pan. 325 (140 centigrade) for 15 minutes then leave in turned off oven for 20 minutes.

And pate with pickled cucs and beets!

I think we've discussed this on eG somewhere before - pagophagia (ice eating) is a variant of pica (craving to eat non food items like clay, dirt, paper, cornstarch) and happens with mineral deficiencies of various sorts. I've always found the softer ice to be preferable when I have the urge to chew on an ice cube - so for a home based cocktail fan this machine might be just the ticket.
