I second that, fabulous icecreams/sundae's. Dont eat the food though, its nothing special. Just upgraded pub grub. Oh and Tark's( pretty close to Jaxson's) is famous for fried clams. Rosie's ( short way up US1 towards Hollywood has fabulous italian ice's and custard.

We're going to Hollywood/Ft. Lauderdale next month and Im hoping to get some new recomendations to try. I second the Rustic Inn. My family used to eat there a lot when I was a kid. We'd always get the bucket of crabs and spagetti. I loved the sauce and we loved eating on newspaper lined tables and those wooden mallets. Good times. Marks is fabulous. Great food, cant say enough good things about Marks. I love Mama Mia's in Hollywood. Great Italian food. I also really like Mario the Baker in Sunrise. I love their baked ziti and minestrone. My partner says they make the best calamari too. Any new places anyone wants to recommend?

hmmmmmmm, another post to make me madly miss California. I grew up in Santa Monica/Venice area and I've had some great meals there. I wasnt as much as a foodie as I am now though. I'll have to try Joes next time I go back for a visit.

Dont know about Orly, unless she means New Orleans. Wondra is a flour that comes in a can, its very fine and its usually used for gravy.

I just bought a couple boxes of that Zatarain's because it was on sale for $1.00. I thought it would make a quick meal for my neice when she comes to visit. I then wondered about the company since they are based in New Orleans. I checked the website and they have moved production to Houston. My foods Ketchup Hidden valley ranch Garlic Plus( made by Mcormacks, availble in canada) Hellmans( trader joes mayo is good too) Thai curry pastes I used to use bottled ginger until I saw Michael Smith( chef at home, foodtv canada) freeze his ginger and then grate it frozen using a microplane). It works great Coolwhip -

Hey Danielle, How did the casserole turn out? Btw, Im totally having flashbacks to that zingermans sandwich I had the day of the gathering. Yummy. Im making a trip to AA next week sometime. I heard there was a Penzy's store that just opened on the way to AA.

I third the recommendation for the Bellagio breakfast. I think the last time I had it, it was about 12.99. Ridiculously reasonable for the quality and choice. Now, ask me if I would ever wait in line again for 3 FREAKING Hours on Thanksgiving for the dinner buffet

Fabulous demo. Pie crusts really scare me. I read about leaf lard in an old issue of CI and I must order some. Im determined to make and enter a pie in our town fair. I just read an article about a deep dish apple pie( once again, i think it was CI) and they cooked the filling first. Anyone ever try that?

I just "won" a half lb for 5.50. Why would you pay 110 for 5 lbs? The auctions are a lot cheaper.

Can you tell me how you make your own paste?

"Zingerman's in Ann Arbor also carries Piave, but they are more expensive than even Wegman's" Great blog so far!! I know what it's like to drive to find products you can't find in your own town. I often drive to Michigan or Toronto. I also think that Zingerman's is more expensive than every other grocery store. Check out the Heartland thread( if you havent already) for our recent tour of Zing's and our meal cooked with many products purchased there. -
Thanks, Ill look there. Ive been to that site many times, its great.

Im still dreaming about those blossoms. We have a few outside now on our zucchini plants and I asked Robin if we could pick them and stuff them. I have a lot of pictures to post and I promise I'll do it this weekend. I started a new legal job and I'm exhausted at the end of the day. ( Im even too tired to cook or read my beloved cookbooks before bed ) Thanks tammy for hosting. Hopefully, you can make it for the Toronto gathering in September. -
"elsie you've touch my heart"-from tonight's episode. was what he said just for show?..if not..he's an abusive, sappy, bullying twat. ← It would be nice if we could come up with an alternative word to "twat". I find it misogynistic and offensive.

There sure is! Just head over to www.epicurious.com and search for Musician's Tart. I found it there a couple of years ago, and have made it several times since. Dried pears are used in the paste under the nuts, and I'm having trouble finding them in Toledo now. If you find a source in Ann Arbor, please let me know. Sam ← Im sure you could get those dried pears at Trader Joe's. I freaking loved that tart. Yummy!! I think it was my favorite off all the desserts( the gelato rocked too) -

oh lordy, I am so full. We had an excellent lake trout that was served with thinly sliced lemon and salt packed capers. That was served with green and wax beans with bacon. Then came the intermezzio of cubed watermelon sprinkled with very special old balsamic. Next came the veal shoulder roast with a pan sauce of reduced pan juices, white wine, fig, fig jam, sage, and apple cider vinegar( wow, that was a mouthful). The veal was presented with bowls of purple fingerling and red new potatoes, roasted with shallots and rosemary. Braised shiitakes rounded out the sides. dishes are being cleared and the desset table is being set up. A huge whack of local blueberries and rasberries, two cakes from whole foods. ( carrot and chocolate mouse). Outrageous brownies, gelato, homeade vanilla ice cream and musiciams tarts. Yummy. Pictures to come. -

I'll post an update. So far,we've had an amazing creamy and flavorful mushroom soup prepared by devilkitty. We've also had stuffed squash blossoms that were fabulous. They were stuffed with carmelized zucchini and then diped in tempura batter and fried(torakris). We've also had a wonderful roasted golden beet salad with onions, bacon and maytag blue. Then another wonderful salad was put before us. Couscous with green beans and butternut squash. This was served with a creamy smooth yogurt dressing. The first batch of dishes is being done by Bennett and my friend Janet( a non-egulleter). Will update more after the next round of courses come out. Wish you could be here!! -

Pam, you've never had a black and white? Oy gevalt, I grew up eating those in Florida( I was born in NY as were my parents). They are like a big cakey cookie. More cake than cookie, with a sweet icing. Half chocolate icing/half vanilla. Its hard to find a really good one. On our last trip back to Florida, I tried 3 from different deli;s and they all sucked. I need to learn to bake them. -
