I'm not sure I recognize the wine..... Local vintner? ← Oh yes, this came from the lovely Cadbury beverages Canada in scenic Mississauga, Ontario.

I bought mine at Amazon for 7.50. I'm having the same problem as you Karen. Although the black stuff didnt get into the butter, just on the bell part.

Happy Hanukkah!! Michelle, Im so glad you're blogging. I'm very inspired for my latka's tonight. I might have to try those donut things when my new fryer arrives. -

I would and I did. Remember, taste is so subjective. Shirley U Jest loved the restaurant, I thought it sucked. I'm not made at Shirley and if she recommended another restaurant, I might try it. I really dont think that's brutal. There are a lot of great restaurants in Ft. Lauderdale. Have you tried Cafe Matarano? Mia's Grill in Hollywood? Mark's on Las Olas?

ive bought some really cute small ones for cupcakes at beryl's including shipping, i paid 20 bucks for 100 of them.

"Vanilla beans or powder would taste best, but they are pricey" I beg to differ on this. I just won an organic vanilla auction on ebay. I paid 8.96 for 30 beans( 1/4lb) I've won other auctions for even less. I make my own extract with the beans.

Maybe this is OT as Im not looking for something in Toronto, but I am looking in Southwestern Ontario. I cant find flank steak or Skirt steak. The butcher said he doesnt do those cuts around these parts. Why not I wonder? Its not even for me as I dont eat meat, its for clients. HELP!!

Here is a salad I made today for some clients. I got the recipe from a fellow food blogger who got it from epicurious. This is granny smith, celery and toasted walnuts in a dijon lemon dressing. Let me channel Giada for a moment. " This salad is crunchy and fruity and fresh and tangy".

"That being said, not all chains are made the same. There's no way you could get me into either a Red Lobster or an Olive Garden any more" When I lived in California, I NEVER went to chain restaurants. However, now that I live in Southwest Ontario, and I often go to the border town of Port Huron, MI, my choices are really limited. They have Red Lobster, Applebees, Oliver Garden, Ruby Tuesday and a recently added Chili's and Cheap Charlies. They did have a Chi Chi's but that went bye bye. So, my options are rather limited. Surprisingly the soup and salad combo at Red Lobster is tasty and cheap. 5.95 for all you can eat soup, fresh salads with baby shrimp and the ubiquitous cheese biscuits. The chili's has some really fresh and tasty salads too. I think its just a matter of knowing what to pick of the menu's.

"Right now we are just starting the new 'crop' of cute cute cute baby goats. We have about 5 'new' moms: and 4 of them are GREAT moms. One needs to be turned into CPS (child protective services): her name is Towel " Sounds like Towel could be related to Michael Jackson's so called child who's name is Blanket. ( sorry, couldnt help it) -
Something has gone very wrong if your cake turned out dry. No matter how good a recipe you start with, the resulting chocolate cake will be terrible if it turns dry. I made the recipe as written and it was extremely moist, as much as or even more so than the Hershey's recipe I have used many times in the past. ← As i said previously, I might have overbaked it. However, I didnt overbake the cupcakes and I wasnt impressed with the flavor. Maybe it was the type of chocolate i used, I just had higher expectations.

Mine only went for 45min, at 250f. My oven is way off!! I also baked a few cupcakes which were a tad less dry( took them out sooner). I also used bittersweet choc. in place of semi sweet. I didnt have any semi-sweet. I used the last of my hershey's and Im bummed because I cant find that in Canada. Does anyone know if its sold here? I usually make a border run and pick up a few but if someone sells it here, that would be better.

My questions: To squeeze dry or not the potatos? Matza meal or flour? Will only russetts do? Im looking at a recipe in my file from an old issue of MSL. There is a recipe for parsnip latkes and they suggest a pear sauce in place of apple sauce. The recipe includes parsnips and potato. These sound good.

I made the latest version on Sunday for my spouse's bday. I wasnt that impressed. It was a tad dry( I might have overbaked a bit) and while it was very chocolaty, I found it no better than my go to chocolate cake( Black Magic by Hershey's). I frosted with a sour cream ganache and used some cherry butter in between the layers.

Ive made a lightened italian cream cake from Cooking light and its really, really good. I can PM you the recipe if you want it.

I made two upside down cakes last Spring for a bday party. They were awesome. The recipes are from CI, I made a plain pineapple and the ginger coconut version. If you;re interested PM me for the recipe.

I thought black cherry was the most important flavor?

We were in Kensington today and I found so many things I cant get in my small town. Corn Tortialls, Dulce de leche, etc, etc. I did see that House of Spice had Ancho Chili powder. I think Marlene was looking for that at one time. It was pricey, 3 and change for 50 grams.

So this morning I'm standing in our pantry, looking for something, and I notice two cans of sweetened condensed milk. And for a moment there I'm confused, wondering why on earth I've got two cans of sweetened condensed milk that I don't recall purchasing (because I almost never do). And then I remembered that my husband had gone to the grocery store to buy ingredients for pumpkin pie, and he'd also apparently been confronted with this dilemma. So he got both: two cans of evaporated milk, and two cans of sweetened condensed milk. Guess I'll be making key lime pie sometime soon. ← You can make a pumpkin pie with sweetened condensed milk too. I made one for thanksgiving. 1 can pumpkin, 1 can sweetened condensed milk, 2 eggs, pumpkin pie spice. It tasted great!!

I've been making a carmelized onion dip. A whack of carmelized onions, mayo, cream cheese, some herbs and spices and a whirl in the cuiz. yummy.

I like the Spice House. I dont like paying for shipping though so I tried the new penzeys when I was in the detroit area and I must say. I still like the Spice House better. So, until i can get to Chicago, I'll have to do mail order. I love the ancho chili powder and the smoked paprika from the spice house. They make wonderful gift baskets too. Last year I sent my friend a basket and he was so impressed.
