When this thread started as an offshoot of the Cold Turkey 3 Ways thread I was still in the no way no how gonna quit mode. Well its been 7 weeks since I bought any cigarettes. Nothing tastes better but the dog sure does smell worse. Anyone want to comment on their progress? I shot at Shoprite too but my hubby wont eat the Australian grass fed beef, he says it tastes livery. I took the last whole filet I had and turned it into Wellingtons for company. But remember none of those things listed are Grade names used for beef. tracey

How has the internet changed cooking and eating?

Since there has been a little side talk on where we store recipes....I have to say I was a bit panicked yesterday as I looked for the scrap of paper with my rudimentary instructions for a sourdough pullman. I found it under the bills and just to be safe taped it to the inside of the cabinet door over the mixer. tracey mmm spelled my name wrong -
After seeing that chef try to kill Bourdain I am almost afraid to go there tracey

I have to admit I take a much more...Pioneer attitude toward bread baking. I have been sort of working with a formula posted by Glenn a while back for a pullman loaf, except being American I dont do metric, and being lazy I dont have a scale and my math isnt very good either. So I took his formula put it into ounces then turned that into cups, which never works for flour so I just add enough to make dough.... Ahh but today I gave that dough 6 hours rising time and nothing...well almost nothing but it was getting late so I baked it. It rose quite a bit in the oven. Then I cut it hot because I wanted some. Its really good but probabley no longer has anything to do with Glenn's raisin bread the meaning of this...I dunno "eat more bread" tracey

So thats what my mother must have been reading when she sent me on a web quest for a "real Irish Pub" with live music and live Irish, or something like that. We went here tonight, it is freeking loud, and packed, with a 1 hour wait for a table. They did have Harp on tap so Mum was happy not Harpy. We were finally seated in what they called the cottage...it looked like a cottage go figure. There was a four top and 2 twos. We ordered the "bar platter" to get our required daily fryer oil, it was cheese covered potato wedges, chciken strips and wings, mozz sticks all piled of FFs with blues cheese, sour cream, honey mustard and extra wing sauce. We were informed they were out of Shepards pie and we ordered. Mom onion soup and cheese steak, Dad bangers and mash with beans, Hubby onion soup and fish n chips and I got the chicken potpie. Really nice coating on the fish, didnt have that wet separation between fish and crust, potpie was mild, not bland...huge oval of perfectly baked puff on top. The cheese steak mostly got looked at since mom could barely finish her soup, and having never had an Irish sausage before I cant comment on its authenticity or quality but again mildly spiced. Service was fine but I dont really see going back there, we in West Milford have our own dive bar with good food right up the hill. tracey

I have read that metal bowls conduct heat "too well" and thus cool off or heat up the dough more (and more rapidly) than one might like. That said, I use only metal bowls (stainless) and have no problems that I can tell. Doc ← So there was no reason to panic when I left a spoon in the bowl overnight....good tracey

I was just mulling the fact that an Egullet member was able to tell me that he lives right around the corner from the hotel I asked about, in Paris. I was making a salad using vegetables from a farmers market spoken about often by another New Jersey member. I know a guy that has invited 100 people he never met to his house and I drove through 5 states to go there. We can now find out about a new food item by asking someone who just ate it last night on the other side of the world. We can eat, meet, and greet through a keyboard and cameras, we know who's carrot cake looks best, who eats the most corn, and how to butter braise beef. How has this changed you? tracey

I finally gave myself a Sunday off from our riding club and headed up to the Lafayett farmers market. here is a picture of Most of my haul dont adjust your color settings we have the bi-colored corn from the fresh sack, orange tomatoes because I finally found a tomato I like, round zucchine because they are easier to grill, white eggplant just for the irony, hardneck garlic, a cucumber, and Blue Potatoes not shown is the peach crumb pie....thats for later, or the cheddar, ooops bread too tracey edit.......PIE IS GOOD my goodness I think our whole dinner used 1/2 of a clove of that garlic.
