Certainly Amada would be great, but taking up that many seats on a weekend evening would almost constitute a "buy-out" which would likely be beyond our means. However, putting the horse before the cart, this is all moot until we have a decision that this is happening in Philly, actual dates and committed butts to put in the chairs. Chef Garces, given the chance might want to be the first Iron Chef to "personally" host us LOL ....they also do have a "lounge" that seats 30 to 40 perhaps Sunday brunch I have seen no mention of pizza...isn't there an old thread about a Philly pizza club? tracey

rooftop1000 replied to a topic in The Heartland: Dining
Greetings All After I realized I would have to resize all my pictures to post them and I only know a really 'round about way of doing that I dug up my old Flicker account which will go marginally faster. Keep checking back as this will take a while ...and by the way what is the easiest way to get alot of pictures off a Droid Global 2? -

The "pantry staples" request reminded me about this crazy amazing Sea Salt that I have. I will bring some along and if anyone has a dish that needs a finishing salt it will be available. Otherwise our mode of transport doesn't leave much extra space after clothes and of course my knives. tracey

If I had Daisies in my garden I would have ripped all their little petals off these past 3 weeks asking should I Go or Not. Well, my neck is still tweaked from a good stretch on July 4th and I can't sit in the car for more than 10 min but we are going anyway. We should be there in time for cocktails Thursday : ) See you all soon Tracey

The distance from your countertop to the bottom of your wall cabinets
rooftop1000 replied to a topic in Kitchen Consumer
12 inches...which is obviously not enough for anything. Actually the cabinets on either side of the sink used to sweep the countertops, so I took the doors off. When we got ne countertops I had the frames cut to match the others in height but still left the doors off. These cabients have spices and the dishes/glasses. tracey -

I don't have an exhaust fan but I do have a window right over the stove We used to jam a desk fan into it but now I have a basketball like pattern of Grease/Dirt on the screen. If the smoke gets too bad sometimes I crank up the forced hot air heat. My husband has banned the cooking of any duck products indoors after he almost choked to death on aerosolized duck fat. tracey

For some reason Passover was the first thing that came to my little mind for this one, and that worked it's way to Vegan macaroons. http://search.yahoo.com/search;_ylt=Ap0_ms6bkd09Xa4FaMBn8QCbvZx4?fr=yfp-t-701-s&toggle=1&cop=mss&ei=UTF8&p=vegan%20macaroon%20recipe Maybe cook up a fruit compote from some frozen fruit and serve it as a cobler with macaroons placed on top. tracey

I used to hit our local A&P salad bar for stir fry fixins more often than salad, or for all the goodies for a great salad at home and then get a head of lettuce. I always hated getting a "lunch salad" from there because the lettuces were never cut to proper bite size. I hate when there is an entire leaf of romain draped down my face LOL tracey

You have no idea how sad I am that my camera is still in NC while I am in NJ....but last nights heaping plates of evil still deserve a write up. After telling a couple of friends of all the wonders in NC we decided to make a little dinner party... We started with Pimento Cheese, Deviled Eggs, and the unfortunate Canned Boiled Peanuts. The main course was Chicken Fried Steak garnished with Chicken Fried Bacon and served with Biscuits, Mashed Potatoes, Mac n Cheese,Cole Slaw and copius amounts of White Pan Gravy. Washed down with White Peach Sangria and assorted Beers. Once we could move again we finished the evening with Red Velvet Cake. I think this was a fair tour of the South on a Cold NJ evening...I also think leftover chicken fried steak and eggs are next on the menu LOL tracey

I have done this as a crostini for party appetizers, maybe with a strip of roasted pepper or chopped olive on top. Also makes a tasty pasta topping when you are trying to prove you Can make dinner out of what is laying around LOL tracey

Would you eat at a communal table with people you don't know?
rooftop1000 replied to a topic in Restaurant Life
I don't mind them at all and my husband enjoys them because he likes to get people talking. We were seated at one in Munich and had a blast, I had ordered the biggest thing on the menu (pork nuckle) and an older German man seated next to me managed to say in English "you have a lot of work ahead of you". After that couple left an Italian family was seated with us and the father wanted what I was having. We had some fun flipping between the English, Italian and German pages of the menu to find the item, and I found out it is called Stinco in Italian. LOL The whole family was saying ahhhh Stinco tracey -
The State of Toasters, 2011 -- or, Why Do They Suck So?
rooftop1000 replied to a topic in Kitchen Consumer
Does anyone happen to have any recomendations on a very low profile toaster oven? My current Black and Decker Countertop Oven works great but at 11 inches tall is only 1 inch below my upper cabinets. The varnish was peeling over where the oven is, and I have just torn the kitchen apart and painted the cabinets. After 2 weeks of stripping sanding and painting I dont want to melt the paint right off. I guess I may just have to go regular toaster for the next one. tracey -
Jams, Jellies, Preserves, Fruit Spreads, Butters
rooftop1000 replied to a topic in Food Traditions & Culture
I currently have strawberry, blackberry, cherry and apricot, all commercial Preserves. Strawberry goes on Peanut butter...that is the way it always was and will be. I once had a raspberry and peanut butter sandwich and it was just not quite right. Blackberry and Cherry are for pan sauces for pork or duck and the Apricot is for cookies and salmon. At a diner I prefer Grape Jelly on my toast. T
