  1. I was holding off on this one for a couple of threads, but here goes... Madame et Monsieur, allow me to present: The Brazilian Wax*! Cachaca, grenadine, Angostura, and Fresca. #include <beer.h> glass by Thinkgeek.com. Bendy straw by Harris Teeter. Kind of settled, but it was a really neat cloudy red gradiant. Use a good amount of middling cachaca (I'm finding this one a good way to kill off what's left of my Pitu before buying something nicer for more respectable cachaca drinks) in a glass with ice, a few dashes of bitters, bit of grenadine, then pour Fresca slowly in. The grenadine will largely stay at the bottom and gradiate very nicely towards the top. Admire for a bit then stir so you don't suck up a mouthfull of grenadine. *A working title Edited for late-breaking spelling errors. Film at 11.
  2. Gr, I was hoping to try them out at some point when I was home. Maybe I'll swing by over Thanksgiving and see what's up.
  3. Yup, laptop on the counter. Panasonic Toughbook. Nigh Invulnerable! Streaming audio. Plus my server rack is temporarily housed there, not that it's DOING anything right now. This one time I was cooking and broke my toe on a disk array I left on the floor.
  4. No, I did not like the Lamb Lover's Survey.
  5. And what's the deal with Ovaltine? The mug is round; the jar is round. They should call it 'Roundtine'!
  6. Someday I hope to be cool enough to be able to see exactly the extent to which everything around me is so completely uncool. Edited to realize: But I probably wouldn't be able to write about it as well.
  7. Naaaatto. N-a-t-o 'naahtto'. Na-na-na-nanaaato.
  8. 'Seasoning'...is this a cast iron teapot? Kind of a counter-question: Is a new cast iron teapot like an un-seasoned long-used cast iron teapot? If I buy a new one, will it have the same flavour problems you are seeing in your damaged pot?

    Tetsubin

If there is to be a comparison or testing event for these teapots, it can be called Ryouri no Tetsubin.
  11. Hey, the thread said "burgers" and also "fancy." How muchh more fancy can a burger get when it has no beef in it. Would a "bison" or "venison" burger not count as well? ← I find Mr. Nebergall's argument...delicious!
  12. Yup, a 750. http://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/Apps/DLC...ts_specials.cfm
  13. Montgomery County, MD stores have it for $24.99 Edited to remark: At least until 9/27
  14. Ok, but it has to be able to work both ways. I'm looking in your direction, Crystal City Restaurant.
  15. I think if the Brick maintained their actual stocked quantities of beer as well as the vaunted List, they would have a winning formula. Old stock complaint, I know... Still, there are plenty of worse places for lunch, and it's not like there won't be something there you'll want to drink!
  16. I can't say I saw much of a difference between the three birds either, save for one piece that I had which was very salty. I'd like to think that was the brined one, but who knows. Thanks to everybody for the great sides and the great company, and especially for Mr. and Mrs. Busboy for their glittering as always hospitality!
  17. (Flay vs. Lang episode...just saw it) Hey, "Thirsty Traveller": Jack is a Tennessee Whiskey, not a bourbon.
  18. Wonder if there's any relation to "Asian Bistro" of M Street in DC. Not bad, not great.
  19. I pretty much just took the seal off the cap, cleaned it, dropped it back inside the growler, added a splash of bleach to each, then filled each to overflowing so the cap surfaces would be submerged. Those sat overnight, then I emptied them before work and put in the dishwasher so they'll be rinsed when I get home. The seals look ok now that they soaked, but I'll see if I can get new ones when I go. There will be beer yet!
  20. What's the best way to clean a growler? I ran mine through the dishwasher, which seemed to do a good job, but when I went to get them just now to head out to Old Dominion to have them filled, I checked and the seals were moldy! So, I have to call off the run, but what should I do to cleanse the growlers for the attempt tomorrow? Fill them with dilute bleach for the night then put them in the diswasher again?

    Young Sommeliers

Have to start somewhere, right? This is the 'experience' part for when in a few decades they are regarded as 'experienced' sommeliers.
  22. I've got an Aerolatte, and it works pretty well. It's not going to replace your steam frother, but it should work great in the travel kit.
  23. Is Gran Gala compatable? I know I've seen it in Table Tents at a restaurant or two (typically not places where you'd expect a good Margarita...) Cointreau in the "Top Shelf Margarita", followed by Gran Gala in the middle, and stock margarita with Bol's or similar Triple Sec. Question is, is it any GOOD?
  24. Few things better than a big pitcher of mugicha (Barley tea) on a hot day!
