  1. Hi Neil, How are you? Ummm....corned beef? How many kolachies would you like? I'm willing to skip out on work for the crack that is Neil's corned beef!!
  2. Andrew...Way Too Much Time.......Way too much....penguins for pucks has to be my favorite line yet. Still looking for warm elk balls though.
  3. Cold butter spread thickly on a digestive biscuit. Pure heaven. Because of this thread I had to have one (and then another) before I could continue to read. I haven't had this great snack since my grandfather passed away 11 years ago. The wonders of eGullet.
  4. I had to give up caffeine a few years ago when I started getting really serious migraine. It was all part of the "let's see if it's food related" diet and I was a mess. I was the type of person that would drink several coffees and espresso's throughout the day and evening and of course I found out that caffeine wasn't affecting my migraines at all. I felt so much better when I started having my morning coffee again. I was human again! Although, I do limit my coffee intake. One cup before I leave the house and another when I get to the office. That's it. If I decide to splurge and have an espresso in the afternoon, I'm shaky and wired, it's really quite amusing.
  5. As someone who has had a few meals with Ling, I am envious of her eating prowess. The girl can eat and I'm certainly impressed (as a side note, she's half the size of me and I'm not that big So far, still on wine, but the shorts are certainly the most delicious thing that I've smelled today. Edited because yes, the short ribs were the most delicious thing that I ate today. And yes I am exaggerating, Ling's 2/3 my size
  6. Thurs: The BBQ chicken that the Beau made for me Last night: The Poire chocolate from Chocolate Arts that Moosh dropped off at work for me. Thank you!!! Today: I haven't eaten yet, but the glass of wine that I was pretty damn tasty. I'm hoping the short ribs that are about to go in the oven deal with that.
  7. I haven't been to KPPS for dinner yet but all this talk of warm elk balls is making me hungry
  8. There isn't anything to say.....
  9. Boy, I sure wish restaurants would offer free martinis to bald Norwegian kitchen designers! That would be really great. I think I'd spend a lot of money at a place that treated bald Norwegian kitchen designers like that! A. ← Subtle Arne, real subtle
  10. It's nice being so young What I meant, was that I hadn't had anything to drink yet that eveing. OK folks, truth time, I'll admit right here and now, I fall down alot!
  11. Ahhh yes, the Railway! I had an Australian friend that introduced me to the place and we spent many and evening/late night there drinking and smoking. Inside no less. It's also the place where I almost broke my foot, before I had started drinking and the entire bar area turned around and laughed at me. Seriously, they laughed. That ended up being one of out best memories of the Railway.
  12. I used to go the R.A.T, all the time too and also the Cambie, before it got all trendy and the couriers and treeplanters left. Do you mean the Bar at the back of the Hotel Georgia, the leopard skin one??? That is great place to have a drink, i completely forgot about it. ← No, it was the Georgia Street Bar and Grill, right on Georgie street and the main entrance of the hotel. The leopard skin one was/is downstairs from the main entrance. The Georgia closed about 3 years (maybe more) and was a great place to hang out after work.
  13. It's actually just off River Road in North Delta, kind of in the Industrial area and truly if you didn't know the area, you would never think that there were fishing boats there, let alone docks. I have found that early spring and summer is when you are guaranteed to find fish down there, but there are some of them that go out all year long. I will ask my mom to post some more detailed info about it and I think she does have numbers for a few of the fishmen. I'll get back to you
  14. I used to go the Rose and Thorne quite frequently and was very sad when it shut down. Now, I did hear that it has reopened again, but haven't checked it out yet. Another one that I used to go to after work or for lunch was the Georgia Street Bar, again closed and hasn't reopened. They always had great jazz and if I was out of ideas for New Year's eve that was where we always ended up. I don't think I ever had a bad evening there. I miss that place
  15. The docks in Delta on the Fraser!! If you don't mind driving, truly the only place to buy seafood that's a really good deal. And they catch it themselves (my mom and I have spent many an afternoon talking to the guys down there, they now phone her when they get in with new fish)
  16. Now THAT we need more of in this world
  17. Vancouver has such a large Asian community that it would seem very strange to go into an Asian restaurant (except Thai) and not have chopsticks. In fact you have to ask for a knife and fork and I very rarely see anyone asking for that. I was lucky in that a boyfriend of my mom's taught me how to use chopsticks when I was still a toddler and am quite proficient now. In fact, I used to have chinese friends that were born in Canada that couldn't use them that well. Always made for amusing lunches; me with my chopsticks from home, them with their fork; eating basically the same meal.
  18. Only at the docks in Delta, and it's the only way that my mom and I will buy our fish if we're buying a lot. The Steveston docks are quite expensive, usually about $2 or $3 higher per lb than the Delta docks. If you have a car, it's worth the trek!! Last summer I picked up some small sockeyes for about $6 each and the large ones were $6 a lb. About $15-$20 per fish. For Sockeye!!
  19. The one place that I bought all my seafood at unfortunately closed and I haven't been able to replace it yet. Produce City Plus on Cambie used to have a fish market at the back of the store that had the freshest fish at the best prices all the time, but now that the location is becoming another condo tower, I just bite the bullet and go to Granville Island. As for fish mongers right downtown, wasn't there a pretty good one just off Robson around Thurlow (ish)?
  20. I thought it was disgusting when my wifes Scottish cousins ordered us a round of Lager and Lime to help sober up (???) last time we were in Glasgow, but Ribenna/Guinness? That seems like a mortal sin against a gift from God. ← I'm sorry, but that just had me spitting coffee. As a woman of Scottish heritage, my grandmother used to make me a shandy when I had an upset stomach as a child. Very common remedy for all things that ail you, including being too pissed to stand
  21. It's true! Once you've eaten it, your life becomes a junkie's nightmare, dreaming of the blissful dish, trying to get all your friends hooked so you'll have more opportunities to go, compulsively planning your next fix... I'm gonna regret posting this ... This Gingerbread addiction has to be a chick thing. Don't get me wrong ... it's awesome. One of the best desserts I've ever enjoyed. But an addiction? Not for me at least. Get a grip girls A. ← Come on, you are amongst friends here, embrace your inner girlie man and declare your undying love for the gingerbread. The gingerbread know you love it. The gingerbread loves everyone. All hail the gingerbread. ← OK, now we're just starting to sound cultish! The Cult of the Gingerbread! All hail our great leader Neil........wait....Gingerbread.....

Not for me at least. Get a grip girls A. ← All I'm going to say is...Uh-Huh!!
  23. Could I please have a full definition of "Goat Rodeo"?
  24. Honestly, that is typical Manny. I have nothing but wonderful things to say about him and I am so glad that everyone has had such fabulous meals there. Ling, I would suggest trying it again if you can.
