  1. Baby Duck!! I think it's $5 here.
  2. Cook Shop in City Square was a helluva a lot cheaper than Cookworks. They had the 2 styles, the 2 sharpener (which I have) and that was $110 and the 3 sharpener was $129. I think they are on sale, but I've never ever seen them for more than that. If you can go to Bellingham, you could probably get one there for about $60 US.
  3. I was looking at them in Cook Shop yesterday. I think one of them was $110. But, do you really think you should play with really really sharp knives?
  4. BUY A CHEF's CHOICE!!!! I've had one for about 6 years and I love it! When a friend of mine bought a Henckel at a local thrift shop, I took it home and gave it a new edge. It was just like new. I only need to use mine every 6 months or so. I use my steel everytime I use my knives which keeps them in good shape.
  5. and, according to my sisters Dr. and Nurses, beer helps increase your breast milk production. She tried and oh boy did it work. Good luck today!! and Congratulations.!!!
  6. Poor Neil, he's now going to be inundated with eGulleters from all over. It's bad enough that on given day there is at least one Gulleter looking for Gingerbread. I have some in my fridge at this very moment. That pastrami.......Oh...looks so good..... So what's for dinner? Any hints about food plans for tomorrow?
  7. Galloways in Richmond has them at a very reasonable price too. My favorite snack....mmmmm.....
  8. Ummm....wouldn't that mean that 90% of the actors in Van could audition? What a sill cattle call, then again, after reading the review, it seems as though absolutely everything about this show is silly. Glad I don't have Bravo. Now, Andrew, when are you auditioning?
  9. Deborah, you're right. I was just waiting until I had some more coffee before posting. They have great sushi, but there are so many great places for sushi, I haven't been in years. Arne, dinner looked fantastic.

    Dinner! 2005

Thanks Well, when I said they were "loosely" based on the Les Halles recipe, I truly mean "loosely"! The next time I make them I will write down what I put in the braising liquid and post the results. They kind of change everytime.
  11. K, has anyone else noticed that the outdoor bench at Starbucks is empty? I love how my neighborhood is changing Excellent so far Arne.

    Dinner! 2005

My second attempt at short ribs. The recipe was loosely based on the recipe in Les Halles but some adjustments. (No fresh herbs, different vinegar etc.) Before: After 2 1/2 hours in the oven: I served them on a bed of Stilton mashed potatoes. Oh My were they tasty. The next morning I made a hash for breakfast with some of the leftovers. I still have another 3 large pieces in the fridge
  13. The "Doggie-Style Deli" on Denman Oh my! OK, so let's clarify this a little bit. Is this a deli for the residents of the area or their pets?
  14. Yay!!! The long awaited Daddy-A Blog! Looking forward to this. Don't worry about your waistline at this point, just think of this as just another week.
  15. Maybe the water falls under their organic philosophy too - don't do a thing to interfere with the natural chlorine + copper taste! Is Capers going into the Olive bldg? Interesting. Shrewd. I think the neighborhood is going to flip for Capers. Perhaps in 5 years that stretch of Cambie will become the next uber 'hood. (God help us!) ← I have to agree that the Tomato Cafe is over-rated. I was there a few weeks ago with some fellow eGulleters for brunch and it wasn't so much the food that turned me off the place, it was the service. I arrived early to get us a table and the customer service is lacking at best and surly when you do get service. If the food is good in a restaurant I can sometimes overlook service issues, but not this time. I won't suggest this place to anyone and I probably won't go back. All I have to say about a Capers in the neighborhood; Woohoo!!! It will be nice to have more choices for getting groceries. I was devastated when Produce City was demolished and I loathe shopping at IGA. The Choices on Cambie is the worst in their chain selection wise (it's also a very tiny store) so I will be quite happy shopping in Capers but let's hope the neighborhood doesn't become the next "Uber Spot to live".
  16. My sister had her first child in January and labour started Friday evening and ended at 8ish on Sat. Food didn't even cross her mind. Even after she had little Ava she didn't really want to eat. But on the Monday after the baby was born, I brought her some leftover Prime rib...I've never seen a woman dive into meat that way before. I would go for protein and fibre after the little one arrives.
  17. I feel so OLD! Just don't ask Ling about "Welcome Back Kotter" A. ← Christ, even I feel old after that one and let's not even get started with Kotter discussion I think that a Mexican restaurant on Jericho beach is a brilliant idea. Now, how to get people there in the winter....Dog Friendly....Have a covered warm patio that has an area for dogs to play with a puppy sitter, that alone would make money.
  18. I'm sorry, but Earl's has been extremely successful in the USA. The location in Denver is the busiest of them all and there are plans for more expansion.
  19. a pan of yaletown showing the HSG and Ling is going in the front door - three shots I really like this drinking game Keith, but I'm thinking that with this alone I'll be pissed. I have to say that the trailer was enough to turn me off this show, but I am looking forward to the reviews from people with cable. There is a reason that I don't frequent Yaletown (Except for HSG of course) and I don't really need to be subjected to the "Uberness" of it all in the comfort of my own home. Even just watching the trailer I felt odd sitting in my sweats
  20. I have a very pretty picture of the gingerbread pudding creation that Chef Fowke made for my birthday but I was having a few issues uploading it last night. I'll try again when I get home. **DO not post before having second cup of coffee**
  21. Tropicana on Main and 14th. Great produce, great prices. I usually get 2 large bags of veggies for $5. Area at Main and 25th is seriously lacking produce places now. There used to be 3 fantastic asian markets about 7 years ago that I would frequent once a week. Now, there is only one and the quality is not even close to that of Tropicana. If I have a day off and I feel like driving I always end up at the Steveston Farmer's Market store. (The farm with the petting zoo, the little train and the corn trucks in the summer) You can get anything and everything here, all direct from the farms in Richmond. Another favorite, EE or 2E's as we call it on Fraser Hwy. The have an heirloom baking potato that is better than anything I have ever had. It's not always there and I have been unable to locate it anywhere else in the city. I usually only end up at 2E's when I've been out to Langley with my mom. It's a very very long drive from my place.

    2 GREAT Wines

The Black Label is actually the one I would personally consider purchasing. It's a fantastic wine. (Of course, I haven't actually had it in about 6 years, but it was damn tasty then)
