    Worst Beer Ever Tasted

i just noticed this comment. beer pong with an import?! in my book, if it ain't pabst blue ribbon, it ain't beer pong...
  2. i'm glad you wrote in about this place since i drove by it not long ago and was intrigued...sounds like it's worth a try.
  3. a place on broadway near 115th--begins with an "N" i think--has been recommended to me as having a superior chicken schwerma.
  4. speaking of manayunk, i have no idea if it's still there, but when i lived in philly about 5 yrs ago i enjoyed some fun, interesting, reasonably priced meals at a tiny place called Vega Grill (on Main St). i recall a tasty ceviche... another place i liked that is over near Penn is Zocalo.
  5. wow, rosie, i think the last time i was at epernay i had the same exact things as you (minus all the desserts--we just had creme brulee!) those frites are great, huh? i really liked the mussels alot, too. oh, and we had a really good server--it was quite crowded but he was totally on top of everything. chef mark looks really young...
  6. i'm with jaymes -- cinnamon rolls. and i'm on the lookout for new recipes--i like mine, but am interested in trying others, if anyone's got one they want to share. thanks!
  7. rosie, i believe it was $50 per person, excluding tax/tip.
  8. njchick: i was thisclose to going there too, but we ended up elsewhere. sounds like it was really good; i can't wait to try this place.
  9. 1063 Broad St, Bloomfield i like it 'cause it's open later than some of the other local ice cream places and not as outrageously overcrowded/overpriced. plus i have had the same experience as you (mondo chocolate chip), but much more recently. good stuff. you gotta go!

    Casa Maya

lunch at casa maya was pretty good. i got the chicken mole. it was served as a cutlet, marinated in garlic. the sauce itself was good, although not as intensely flavored as at el gran mexicano in bogota, which was the last place before casa maya that i had ordered this dish. the chicken was served with rice and refried beans--and the beans were pretty darn good (i'm pretty sure there was plenty of lard in there). a few others also got the chicken mole and enjoyed it, while others got burritos and rolled tacos. for dessert, we shared bunuelos, cripsy tortillas sprinkled with cinnamon and drizzled with honey, which were delicious. the restaurant is very cute--decor is bright and festive and the service was friendly and attentive. unfortunately, i have been so busy that i was unable to write this review until i returned home from holiday travels---to mexico, of all places, and with those meals still fresh in my mind, it's hard to get too excited about casa maya. but it really wasn't bad.
  11. Suvir: i am not sure why you are apologizing, since in my previous post, i was thanking you for your candor--which i value--not challenging you for it. i apologize if this did not come across as i intended.

    Casa Maya

    thanks pbrodsky. any recommended dishes?
  13. of course--i didn't mean to imply otherwise. i was just struck by your strong negative reaction to the restaurant...i probably will visit the restaurant but i appreciate the opportunity to hear others' impressions, good and bad. thanks.
  14. so suvir...i guess what you're saying is that i should avoid BLCH like the plague and go to Diwan instead?

    Casa Maya

thanks you guys! i was told it was actually in "meyersville" but now that i have found out that i am not designated driver, i'm not as concerned about getting there and back. I will report back on the meal, however....
  16. Monica: Brick Lane Curry House is the restaurant I was referring to above. I am going to try to get there this weekend. g. johnson: I have also been to Haveli and sampled their Balti dish-I believe it was chicken but I can't remember. I too was underwhelmed. I have heard that BLCH actually features Balti dishes on their meno, as opposed to Haveli, which, if memory serves, had only one or two. So I am hoping that BLCH is good!
  17. anyone have any info on casa maya in meyersville (er, where's that)? i am going next week for lunch. i have heard over the years that it's supposed to be decent, even good, but any details would be appreciated. especially interested in info about the cactus enchiladas... thanx
  18. when i was in london around this time last year i enjoyed many excellent "balti" dishes. i remember being surprised that i hadn't really encountered these dishes at restaurants in NY/NJ. there's a relatively new restaurant in NYC that supposedly offers many balti dishes, but i have not had a chance to visit it yet. they don't have an online menu but if i go i will report back.

  21. oh hell no. do you think i'd subject my parents and my future in-laws to each other without the aid of a full service bar? speaking of that bar, here it is: pazzo pazzo
