  1. I recall driving by this place a few months back on my way to America, and it looked like quite the scene...very busy...

    Corso 98

was there last night and my husband finally got the wild boar stew--ever time we go to corso he orders the roast suckling pig, which is very unusual for him because he generally likes to try lots of dishes, but he loves that one so much that he always ends up ordering it. anyway, the stew was incredibly good. our server told us that they take it off the menu during the warmer months, so, if you want to try it, and i highly recommend that you do, better hurry!
  3. The REAL link Not sure if this will work, because the NYT online requires log in...but here goes....
  4. from this week's TONY: "Behold the granddaddy of grime -- the diviest dive in the East Village. Blue and Gold is showing its age. And that's a good thing. A funk covers the worn walls and rickety booths, and Ukrainian women with fists for faces tend bar. Order a $3 cocktail, shoot some stick, and for God's sake, try not to touch anything." Actually, it doesn't sound nearly as interesting as some of the places discussed on this thread, but....anyone familiar with?
  5. Congrats! Can't wait to read it.
  6. Hey, thanks thereuare! That does help a lot.
  7. I agree about Landmark. I like Gaffer's, Poor Herbie's in Madison, Jim Johnson's in East Hanover, sometimes Wild Bull in Paterson. I recall liking Tumulty's as well, although I haven't been there in a while. Speaking of New Brunswick, I have heard that Stage Left serves up a really great (albeit expensive) burger. A friend who goes veggie every other year always has his last burger at Stage Left. Whereabouts on Rt 17 is the Fireplace?
  8. aww, what a bummer. i could've done the 11th, but can't the 5th. have a few (beers, not dogs) for me!

    Fries

hey, is there a curley's on the b-walk in rohoboth by any chance? maybe i am getting my beaches confused, but i could swear that there is and if so, i've had the fries (served in a paper cup??) and they are pretty damn good.

    Fries

i like the fries at indigo smoke in montclair. specifically with malt vinegar. or dipped in bbq sauce! oh yeah, epernay's are good too. beware if you order them--you get a lot, and they're pretty addictive.
  12. had a really nice meal here fri. night. one app and two entrees from the specials menu (which changes weekly): the montego bay cream of chicken soup, the bourbon braised lamb "osso bucco" with rosemary, and the pan seared scallops with portobello mushroom. the other app was from the regular dinner menu: shrimp, sirloin and chicken brochette. all were delicious. another plus was the olive bread. yet another was the friendly atmosphere. Maureen Jaret is really sweet; we got to talking to her a bit about their monthly wine tastings, which sound pretty fun. btw, if you are looking for their website, it's thepetitecafe.com.
  13. indigo grill in little italy (maybe a 10 minute ride from the gaslamp). not an italian restaurant, btw.
  14. i like illy. and their machine is much cooler than the gevalia one. the above link is for their espresso program; here's the link for the coffee program.
  15. i second this. loved this place when i lived in philly.
  16. for what it's worth... a recent review of the chef's table
  17. hey =mark, there's a cute hot sauce store down your way in red bank. you probably know about it--not a huge selection but the owners are really nice. got a good one called "gator" something or other there.
  18. it's on main ave. about a half mile before you reach corrado's. drove by it last night around 10 and noticed it was quite crowded.
  19. anyone been to this lebanese restaurant yet?
  20. francesco's, 568 mcbride ave., west paterson 973-925-1100

why, oh why, do i read egullet when i'm hungry and have nothing good to eat. i must be a masochist. that sounds really good. where the heck's fredon??
  22. yeah...hmm...i wonder why. just kidding. i'm irish, so i'm allowed to make fun of the food. but seriously, nothing comes to mind 'cept the argyle in kearney, but that's really more scottish/english fare. and it falls on a monday this year, so your options will be further limited (unless you're planning to celebrate on the weekend). or, you might try cryan's in s. orange.
  23. manny's super burrito in berkeley had only one toilet in the bathroom, so the sink often served as a surrogate john. problem was, the sink had no drainpipe.
