    Dandelion Greens

Greek cuisine does some great things with them... Here is a dish of stewed lamb and greens in a egg lemon sauce.. Its superb..
  6. I liked the expression peeing better.. It reminded me of something like gushing.. Hehe.. Thats funny.
  7. Hey, i have tons of stories like that too working in Elizabeth.. Like i said, i am for their right to ostracize the entire country if they want.. And its worth it for me to put up with the bullshit cause the tacos are soo good.. But it was "taxing" at the time because i didnt realize i had to know spanish before hand. My main problem was i thought she was rude for getting upset.. I was obvjously trying to communicate.. edit to add.. I dont want to get off the taco subject.. But i would like to hear your explanation as to why you care if signs are in different languages.. It seems to not stay consistant with your opinion that the general public should learn to speak a foreign language in order to accomodate the business, why not learn how to read it as well. Again, i dont care about that either as long as the food is good.. Is there a thread that discusses the english subject.
  8. New place opened up a couple of months ago on Trumbull.. 766 Trumbull in fact.. Its called Santos Deli.. The menu appears to have a map of Portugal with Viseu, highlighted. They have one of those rotating chicken grilling contraptions.. They serve cold cuts as well as bbq ribs, skirt, pork chops. and chicken.. 1/2 chicken rice and fries for 6 bucks i think. .. They also have croquettas.. Beef, cod, chicken, and pork. Have daily specials.. The place is brand spanking new and very clean. The building stands out on the block. Everyone there seems really nice.. Just stopped in for a menu. A guy in my Industrial Park said the place was great, but i dont know his tastes.
  9. I wanted to snap a picture of the kitchen, but the nice ladies would always look at me suspiciously as I tried to peer in and guilted me out of taking one. And every restaurant like this should have a jukebox. ←
  10. Hmm a basil, sundried tomato, and ricotta ice cream sandwich or fake little pizza.. Might be good or gross.
  11. Patrick, there is no doubt you are the man.. Great pictures too!
  12. I went to Make My Cake on 110th and lennox today.. One of the best slices of red velvet cake i have ever had.. It was a cream cheese icing.. The cake itself was extremely moist.. I think they might have put orange or lemon peel in it, however they denied it.. The cupcakes were superb. Besides being amazing, it was also huge.. One of the better cupcakes in the city.. Not a big selection, but great none the less.
  13. i went to the cup cake cafe for the first time today and had one of there little $2.19 cupcakes.. A little steep i think.. I thought the icing was like eating butter.. I was not impressed and didnt even eat the whole thing.. Not a fan.
  14. Thanks everyone for suggesting Tehuitzingo the place is awesome.. I went there today and had three tacos.. I had the tongue, the carnita and the salt beef.. I couldnt decide what was better between the carnita and the salt beef.. I wanted to show a picture of what the inside of the store looks like to people who havent been there.. Its literally a bodega with a window in the back where you can order tacos.. A few stools and a condiment center where you can get limes, green and red salsa, and a couple of pickled vegetables.. The place is the best taco i have had in NYC by far.
  15. I was recently at moto in chicago.. There they served this shot of liquid they called liquid donut.. I believe it was condensed milk, powdered sugar and crispy cream donuts.. The shot tasted exactly like a crispy cream. I dont know how they did it, but it was amazing.. Maybe blended the whole thing and then strained solid parts out. IF you took this and froze it, i think you would have a beautiful thing.
  16. Recent flavors i have had or was thinking of are: Cream cheese ice cream with guava paste. caramel covered saltines.. Brown Butter ice cream Olive oil obviously Artichoke Ice Cream
  17. Andy, Do you think it was designed as a local place.. Or do you think that because of the name recognition of Mario, he opened a place on an obscure area of a street where the rent would be cheaper, but still draw a crowd?
  18. Todd which bbq places have you gone to in Manhattan?
  19. Today I went for hot dogs at Tommy's.. There are two places right next door to each other in Elizabeth.. These are rather famous places so I wont get to into it.. Basically, you can just tell by looking at the sign of this place its going to be good.. And when you walk to the counter and see the Hollyeats.com Sign.. Then you know its going to be a good place.. Had a chili dog as an "appetizer". It was really good. The chili is very sweet.. I ordered cheese as well, but they forgot.. Oh well, life she continues.. The hot dog is boiled, its a good dog, but i cant distinguish.. I am sure there are a million people who could tell me the brand they use.. My favorite thing to get here is the spicy sausage.. Its a homemade spicy sausage that's just incredible.. Served on a half a italian roll/bun with onions, peppers and ketchup.. A thing of beauty.. They also give you sliced and fried potatoes. The hot dogs are good, but the sausage is worth driving for.. Another wonderful spot!

    Sripraphai

This southern-style curry is absolutely the hottest thing I've eaten there, and could be the hottest thing I've ever eaten. In retrospect, I enjoyed--kind of--experiencing something so spicy, but, yeah, it can ruin the rest of your meal. Banquo, am I remembering correctly: Is it a dry curry? Is it biege in color? I do remember that it's the only dish I know of at Sripraphai that includes makreua puang (pea "eggplants"). Great tip about the grocery, Ned. There's also a Thai grocer a short walk west from Sri on 39th Ave. Pretty basic stuff, but the few herbs and vegetables they sell are of high quality. ← Agreed about the southern style curry... It was really hot! I had a soup tonight i have never gotten there.. it might have been the best thai soup i have ever eaten. It was the tom zab or zap.. The beef ofal soup.. It tasted like a beef tom yum, complete with tripe, tendons, and other parts.. It was excellent, has anyone else had this?
  21. It's another one of those crazy city ordinances: all restaurants in Philly must be named after characters or locations in Rocky movies. You might remember his opponent in Rocky 34, whose nickname was "The Striped Bass", his manager in Rocky 73 was Maury Moto, etc... If you look hard enough, they're all in those movies somewhere. ← Haha.. Who could forget Rocky's wealthy uncle Tony Luke who was married to Pat.
  22. Today i went for cuban sandwiches.. There are two places that i would recommend in Elizabeth.. One has a leg up on the roast pork, while I believe Alvarez has the best cuban bread i have ever had.. They also make mamey shakes, which is a plus.. Alvarez Cafe located at 511 Elizabeth Avenue is a famous place on the block.. It has been open for 30 years.. Its also one of the only places where they have an english menu too.. So i find this helpful.. There website is alvarezcafe.com.. Most places in the area incorporate a lot of different spanish countries into their cuisine.. One restaurant could have Puerto Rican owners and be cooking a combo of Portugese, Cuban and Peruvian food.. Alvarez i think keeps it pretty much too cuban food.. They serve oxtail to seafood.. I especially like there sandwiches, steak, cuban, roast pork, spanish sausage, and the carne ripiada.. All really good..There steak sandwich in which they put french's onion rings under the bread before the grill press it is excellent too! Sandwiches ready to go for lunch My grilled cubano with a mamey shake.. 7 bucks.. I am a happy fella..
  23. Whats is Bobby Flay's new NYC restaurant?
  24. If there are any Rocky Fans out there in Philly you will also remember that Tommy Gun was Rocky's protege in the 5th installment.. He later died of aids in real life.. Weird name for a place in Philly...

    Eating SWAN

] I can imagine that some place will put something that exotic on the menu, but where on EARTH would they get enough of something that small? Is there a swan slaughterhouse somewhere we know not of? Whole ones--that's understandable, if off-putting, but GIZZARDS?? And how is it listed on the menu, and how were they cooked? And by "large plate" do you mean a dozen or so? Where are they GETTING all these birds? Just think of how many of those lovely, ethereal creatures it must take to supply that one very odd dish....yuk. And shudder. ← I understand that itmight sound bad, but they were actually really good.. The gizzards were sliced so I dont know how many gizzards went into the dish.. They were spicy, crispy and a little chewy, almost tasted like chorizo.. Served with tortilla's and fresh crema. I doubt that they are being slaughtered just for there gizzards, so its nice to see they arent going to waste..
