  1. I pay with a credit card and tip in cash. On the slip it says no tip. Management thinks I'm cheap, I give the server ammo for the IRS who says everyone tips and I have great service when I go back.
  2. Blood sacrifice only with the old knife. Why fuck up the new one.
  3. Thank you thank you thank you thank you Great music, it came today. I've been a fan of the Flatlander's but did not know about the new album. What can one say; Eric captures the essence. Thank You. Great Blog ; Girlfriends Dad was from your neck of the woods, makes her miss him.
  4. Sonoma's Tuesday nite market opens for the season tomorrow. I suppose I'll be at the picnic table opposite the Swiss Hotel were a rather eclectic group gathers with various foodstuffs and wine. Do drop by if you happen to be in town.

    Gewurtz and Cheese?

I'd call The Cheesemakers Daughter here in Sonoma as she is probably familiar with the wine and can recommend something as she has a greater selection than her father at Vella.
  6. You can take 128 south to Calistoga from there and be in the upper Napa valley. Mud baths and Massages. You have a great time on your trip. Keep us informed.
  7. Except on the top of the blade where one's fingers rest. Gotta knock off that hard 90 degree angle or have 30-year calluses. All blades can use a polish now and again.

Be sure to try their Tete a Tete red rhone blend.
  9. You're forgiven cause you were at the CIA. But do come back and visit.
  10. If you stayed in Sonoma why did you go to St Helena? There's lots to see and do in Sonoma. Much history and fine wineries. Better food too. A local boy's opinion.
  11. Zest but never the pith. Let us know how it turns out. Try a lemoncello recipe. http://italianfood.about.com/library/rec/blr0321.htm
  12. And besides, peach and almond are pretty much the same thing, as discussed in - oh no, that was via PM, wasn't it - anyway, as you probably already know, they and plums and apricots and cherries are all part of the prunus branch of the rose family. One big happy... yes, well, anyway. Actually, I am within easy reach of NYC - and so far as I know their site doesn't support on-line ordering. And what really got me going was when JAZ referred to happening to spot it at her local store.... So... anyone know where? If you call them they will tell you or do what I did and order by the case of small bottles and sell to friends. I'm known as the orange bitters guy because you could not get it in Calif. Now the local market has it so I guess I'm no longer in demand. We used it for Martinis.
  13. Petanque is a game from the south of France. http://www.petanque.org/
  14. I haven't but it looks great! Did you see they have a lawn bowling tournament in July? Hmmmm. I'm thinking that'd be something fun to do! Have you been to La Provence in Roseville? We went after seeing a review in the Sacbee. It was pretty tasty but no lawn bowling. I think I have to take in that tournament! Thanks for the link!!!!! Actually it's a Petanque
  15. Speaking of Placerville have you been to here? Great French Food. http://www.zacharyjacques.com/

  19. You gotta dress code I don't have a problem with that. Menlo park says Jacket and tie. Sonoma says show me the money. That's why I live where I live. Make it equal and tell me what I gotta wear to eat here. I wear what I want and I eat where I please.
  20. 3 inchs wide. WOW. Most Carpenters planes are not that wide. Bron mandoline is close "at friends house can't measure". Use a cabinet scraper for light ,fluffy pieces of hard cheese.
  21. I use a kevlar glove. Soft knit very nice. Also good for holding oysters

  24. I just got one of those. It totally rocks. I bought mine from this guy to get the extra stone. Definitely worth all the pennies. Just did all my knives on this system. Wish I could do my Chisel's and planes. It is the best, scary sharp. Don't know if you cut you're self till ya see the blood. Right through a tomato with my Chef's knife.
  25. She had just moved into her new condo and her Mother & boyfriend age 70's were visiting and wanted to do leftovers in instead of going out to meet me. So I did a tomato basil fresh mozzarella with anchovies on the side. and Shrimp Scampi with pasta and fresh tomato sauce. Bought cheesecake for dessert. This was on 1/2 hours notice. She still loves me 5 years later. Her sister hates me for that.
