  1. Reconditioned Hobart's start at about $400. We use one at work to mix up fast setting roadway patch. We have 2 mounted on the back of a pickup truck. I'd go that route for anything being done commercial.
  2. Before I bought a knife roll I used an old bath towel. Lay them out about 2" apart fold the other half over and carefully roll them up. Secure with big rubber bands. Hardware stores sell a thing called a parachute bag for holding about 20 different kinds of screws. Put a jar of spice in each compartment and when you pick it up it closes.
  3. for future reference go to " http://www.knifemerchant.com/" for a selection of oyster knives. Buy dozens and open, eat until you know how. Best school there is.
  4. I'll check. Maybe I'll bring one to the potluck and we can taste test.
  5. Sonoma market has dry aged beef the they age right there.
  6. Mac Arthur Place in Sonoma. Pricey but excellent
  7. Frank family winery in the old Hans Kornell building on Larkmead lane St Helena. Great wine and people. also Gundlach-Bundschu in Sonoma (take the hike to the top of the hill).

  10. End grain hard rock maple. Good luck, I'm a woodworker (30 yrs) and building one of these will drive you crazy. make sure all your cuts are perfectly square. Keep us posted.
  11. Bouse Az on hwy72. Also best biscuits and gravy I've ever had. Stay in Parker Az. p.s. only 2 places in town (ha,ha,ha) and and you can go to one for one dish and the other for the other dish. Historic plaques need to be read. When you leave the middle of nowhere and see the B on the hill there you are.

    Riedel wine glasses?

For everyday I prefer the Riedel Basic Red Wine; it fits in the dishwasher, and seems to work ok. Six dollar Sonoma wine during the week.

  14. Got a mandolin for Christmas and told my retired chef buddy about it. He said soup potatoes. What? Slice half and save the rest for soup. Girlfriend did provide a Kevlar glove with it though. Never lend knives; My knives are sharp you know, no problem I know knives; Then, you gotta first aid kit? I also never pick anything near a stove up with my bare hands. Painfully learned lessons tend to stay with you

  18. Gorgonzola dolce. It melts like Butter in mashed potatoes or risotto. My Father used to make me fried baloney and stinky cheese sandwiches when Mom was out of town. Try it some time, it still brings a tear to my eye. But most of his cooking brought a tear to our eyes.
  19. Do the shallots first and every thing else will seem easy.
  20. Did that to a roommate in 1966 who had not scored in 3 years. I can still hear her yell at him. don't know if he ever scored again. Moved the next day and stiffed us for the rent and we still had to do the dishes.

    Oil oil oil oil

Try a vehicle sitting in the sun for 8 hours, said vehicle having three bags of trash, largely consisting of fish guts and dirty diapers. Only for the strong of stomach. We drove around in that vehicle for an entire winter (in Minnesota, no less) with windows open. But, that's a whole 'nother story.
  24. Well I quit today again. Ran out. Mostly cough to much in the morning. Had a little for two weeks. Food cravings are now considerably more expensive now. Foie Gras ; new place in town ,onion soup, more cheese, dim sum, oysters. Gotta give it up.
