Why not. I know chicken is the standard. I added salmon so, pescatarian. Here is a link to the recipe I riffed on. I used daikon and carrot for the vegetables. https://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/1019923-three-cup-vegetables?action=click&module=Local Search Recipe Card&pgType=search&rank=1

Tonight, glazed salmon with three cup vegetables (carrots and daikon) and rice noodles. I used some dark purple carrots that I got in my CSA and they stained everything a rather odd color. The flavor was good though. I have some purple potatoes to use from my CSA too and am not sure what I want to do with them. Bright purple food is not very appealing.

Oooh, I am jealous! This is the only thing I asked for as a Christmas gift. I don't think I am going to get it though. Your pizza looks delicious! I just used the apples that came in my CSA box. I checked the listing and they are sun gold? I have never heard of that variety before. Tonight, pineapple fried rice and sole roll ups with a chile, cilantro, fish sauce and palm sugar sauce

Dinner tonight was snacky stuff since the Patriots game was on at 4:25. Surprisingly everyone came and ate at the table anyway, maybe because the Patriots were ahead by quite a bit. I made homemade Chinese-American food since my nephew cannot eat takeout due to his allergies. He was very excited. Vegetable lo mein Eggrolls (I stuffed them with scallions, cabbage, carrots, ginger, garlic, and a little bit of ground chicken), and crabless crab rangoons (the filling is just cream cheese, scallions, and sriracha) And then...completely unrelated to the rest of the food, my husband very politely asked me to please make some buffalo chicken wings to have with the game. So I did. They were inhaled by my husband and nephew. I made some soy sauce wings for my niece as well but she spirited them away before I could take a picture. I dislike chicken wings myself, but there was plenty of other stuff to eat. The leftover blue cheese sauce will go on a spinach salad later this week.

Can you get a delivery? It might be the safer option.

This week's CSA box. The growing season is officially over, so we are now into the "pantry" part of the share. That means basically greenhouse greens (that is spinach in the back) carrots, potatoes, onions, and winter squash for the foreseeable future. They did include a small bunch of kale as they are trying to keep it growing covered with cloth for as long as they can (it will probably die in tomorrow's snowstorm). I was happy to see that Iggy bread is going to be in the pantry share again this year, and we can always use honey. The thing I am most excited about, though, are the two whitish roots to the far right. Those are Macomber turnips, a variety that was originally grown only in Eastham on Cape Cod, and now are grown in a couple of other towns in MA. They have an incomparably sweet and mild flavor when compared to a standard turnip. I really love them and look forward to them every year.

I got a giant chocolate bar in the mail from Wegman's yesterday, as thanks for being one of their "top customers" (whatever that means). I don't like chocolate (so am planning on sticking it in my niece's Christmas stocking heh heh), but they also loaded a gift card and a bunch of digital coupons for various free food on to my Wegman's account that I can redeem via online shopping. That, I will use.

Christmas Eve/Christmas, New Year's Eve/Day 2020/21
liamsaunt replied to a topic in Food Traditions & Culture
This year is definitely going to be different for us. Typically, my husband and I would go to my in laws for Christmas eve, and my parents and brother along with my sister and her kids would come to my house for Christmas day. Obviously none of that is happening this year thanks to Covid and people's stubborn refusal to adhere to health guidelines (MA had the highest positive daily case total since this crap started yesterday, at 4,965 new cases). My sister and her kids moved in with my husband and me permanently back in March, so there will be five of us. I have not even thought about a menu for Christmas eve yet. My husband bought a small beef tenderloin from Heritage Foods for Christmas day, but I need to think of a second entree since my sister and I don't eat red meat. It needs to go with a big red wine since my husband usually breaks out something really good on Christmas and I don't want to miss out 🙂 I will probably make twice baked potatoes for the starch, since that is a typical Christmas dish for us. I'll be watching this thread for ideas. -
Two different Meera Sodha curries last night (because, of course, nobody could agree on just one 🙃) Paneer butter masala with carmelized red onion-tamarind rice Keralan vegetable istoo with plain rice. The recipe said you could put in any vegetables that you wanted, so I used carrots, spinach, and honey nut squash from my CSA box Both curries and the caramelized onion-tamarind rice are from her book Fresh India. I also made naan but forgot to take a picture of it.

The only thing I got a picture of was the turkey. We have an entire gallon ziplocks of leftover meat. I made stock from the carcass and got almost five quarts.

Miso salmon with udon noodles, onion, ginger, garlic, chile pepper, carrots, daikon, bok choy and cilantro in a miso broth. Good luck to all of tomorrow's turkey roasters (including me)!

Luckily, I am not out of real garlic. I was just getting low. I will try again next week. To me, it tastes too rich and cloying in cereal. I do use it in cooking though, so it will get eaten eventually.

I just received the worst Instacart delivery since this pandemic started. 2 gallons of organic whole milk swapped in for organic 2% (nobody drinks whole milk), Brigham's ice cream swapped in for Haagen Daz, Thomas' bagels swapped in for Dave's Killer Bread, and worst of all, I ordered fresh garlic and ginger, and they brought me the shelf stable jarred kind! The store was also out of cornmeal, buttermilk (not surprising, I think a lot of people are making Samin Nosrat's buttermilk brined turkey this year), pine nuts, english muffins, and crackers. None of which is the shopper's fault of course. Usually the shoppers text if they are going to make a substitution, but this one didn't for some reason. Oh well. I am sure the store was crazy and they did the best they could. I froze the whole milk to use in cooking, and the teens will likely eat the crummy bagels and ice cream. The only thing that I don't think will ever get used is the jarred garlic. I might try posting it on the buy nothing page for my town.

The gobble box came. I am sharing with my parents and my mother in law. We also ordered a pie from the farmer's wife, who has a bakery. This is pumpkin with sesame crunch. Of course my Mom phoned today to say that she is bringing me two pies tomorrow in exchange of her share of the gobble box! I am sure that my niece and nephew will eat all of each pie.
