The earliest I ever encountered local Garlic was the very last week of June.

Fresh from the dirt of the Fraser Valley came an astounding harvest of sweet mild Garlic from somewhere near Mission IIRC.

Hills - Communities of the Slocan Valley

Hills, a few kms north of Rosebery is a rural residential area dotted with small farms. Like other places in the valley, Hills used to be a lumber siding.

It is now more famous for the Hills Garlic Festival, which takes place the weekend after Labour Day. This funky Kootenay festival whose slogan is “Where culture meets agriculture” is a fall harvest market centred around the theme of our smelly friend – garlic. Garlic farmers, food artisans, craftspeople, bluegrass musicians, and the usual Kootenay characters fit this slogan to a tee.
