Have a long layover at CDG and will spend the day in Paris before returning to Gare Du Nord to retrieve our bags, and catch the RER back to the airport. What is the best restaurant in this area? French food, under $100 per person.

What John said. Reserve NOW at Chez Michel though; it's a very popular place.

Another back-up is Chez Casimir (6 rue Belzunce, just two doors down from Chez Michel), run by the former sous-chef at Chez Michel. Excellent food as well.

I'd third Chez Michel - never had a less than good meal there in something like 8 or 9 visits. Not sure about websites, but if you're concerned about booking in French over the phone I wouldn't worry - the staff there speak English.

appreciate the suggestions. Unfortunately, they do not open until 7pm, and I need to eat on the early side to make the trip back to CDG in time to catch an 11PM plane. Hoping to get a table at Lamis louis.

Eating dinner at a decent restaurant in Paris before 7PM is going to prove quite difficult-- the French like a late-ish dinner for the most part, the most popular start times being between 8-9PM. Dinner before 7 will most likely relegate you to a "non-stop" type cafe with super-ordinary food, or a place catering mainly to tourists that would probably also be unspectacular...

P.S. Terminal 2F at CDG has a branch of Brasserie Flo that serves non-stop; might be an acceptable alternative considering your parameters.
