This is my favorite eGullet thread. Thanks everyone for such mouthwatering inspiration.

I recently returned from a trip to New York with a cooler full of goodies from Russ and Daughters. I've been eating them for breakfast.

That herring was fantastic!

Pastrami salmon

Saturday:

The bread is Irish soda bread from a local bakery and it's wonderful. The raspberry jam is also local and wonderful. The fish is trout.

Sunday:

The mushrooms are from a local farmer and even though you can barely see them they're also wonderful. The fish is sturgeon.

Chili Bean Scrambled Eggs w/Laab - a great way to use up some left over Larb. The spice helps cut through the richness of the egg. Added some Chinese horsebean chili sauce while scrambling the eggs.

and while I was experimenting around...

"Egg roll" - I know...looks weird, but the flavors and crisp texture of the lettuce was refreshing.

The other day I made

Indian Alpha-Alpha Masala Eggs - shallots, spring onions, garlic, tumeric, cumin, chili powder, tomatoes and alpha-alpha sprouts. Sautee for a few minutes and then crack the eggs on top with some water and cover to steam.

nonblonde007: A belated thank you to a fellow nontraditional breakfast lover.

stuart_s: That pastrami salmon look great.

PercyN: I can almost taste your chile bean scrambled eggs with larb, I need to try that. The bold color and spicing of your Indian masala eggs is beautiful, too. What are alpha-alpha sprouts?

Saturday morning I improvised a red curry paste - I think it had red chile, garlic, shallots, ginger, and shrimp paste. I fried the paste with palm sugar and leftover coconut milk to make red curry scrambled eggs. Sides were more leftovers - carrot daikon pickle and sauteed char siu pork.

Edited to add palm sugar.

Bruce aka C. sapidus...........Thanks A-Lot! You have shamelessly pulled another person into your addiction. Thank you for the walk thru a couple of pages back.

My first breakfast pic post.........

Curry scrambled eggs on lettuce. Yummy!

I whistfully mentioned how I missed sushi. Truly horrified, she told me "you city folk eat the strangest things!", and offered me a freshly fried chitterling!

nonblonde007: You are quite welcome, I think. Hey, there are worse addictions than making *interesting* breakfasts! Anyway, your curry scrambled eggs on lettuce look delicious. Our breakfast was guacamole topped with a fried egg and feta cheese, but Mrs. C started eating the guacamole before I had a chance to grab the camera.

This morning was pure decadence.

Two slices whole wheat bread, one entire tomato from the garden, Duke's mayo (shipped out here by a friend), and a boatload of bacon cooked crisp. A perfect sandwich and a perfect breakfast.

What to do with left-over Pork Belly? Hmmmmmmmmm, that's a tough one!

gallery_48503_4903_607254.jpg

I couldn't resist flashing the shitake's in the grease. And tomatoes drizzled with the oil.

It's beginning to look like I might have a "thing" for breakfast isn't it? Anyone else having this issue? Perhaps there is a support group out there somewhere....................

Percyn, thank you and bless you for this thread!

I woke with another of my strange cravings.

This morning it's coconut, curry, ginger soup with chicken and shrimp.

I don't know if it's a real dish or not, but it sounded good together and was delicious! Hit the spot.

Brenda: Your shrimp curry breakfast looks scrumptious.

Percyn: Holy crap, I will be happy to help you clean out your fridge. Any time. Really.

The other day we made breakfast for lunch – green curry scrambled eggs. I whipped up something resembling green curry in about ten minutes. I think the “curry” paste had Serrano chiles, ginger, cilantro stems, and garlic, seasoned with fish sauce, lime juice, and sugar. Feta cheese and cilantro for garnish.

Fried bread; two slices of corncob-smoked bacon (it's too expensive, but they sell it at the farmstand where I got the corn); fried eggs atop corn salsa verde (fresh corn off the cob, jalapeno, green bell pepper, grated green tomato, Mexican oregano, lime juice, salt, tequila).

Other than the tequila, lime juice, and Mexican oregano, these are all locally-produced ingredients.

Percyn, WOW!

C. Spidus, the green curry sounds so fresh and delicious.

Ktepi, thinking along similar lines this morning, great looking bread.

I had some left-over fajitas from a few nights ago, so of course, it became breakfast. Don't know what you would call it but it was yummy!

A rare weekday breakfast for me... Smoked Eel and Fried Egg on Toast, this was very delicious but made me smell fishy for the rest of the day. Looking at the picture now it makes me wonder whether it's possible for me to have breakfast without the presence of egg?

Well, prawncracker, fortunately I have never seen the contents of a "burst colostomy bag", BUT that smoked eel looked delicious. Orgasmic, actually!

Where do you get your eel? I used to get it frozen, "from China", but am presently AVOIDING all imported food from China (and all of Asia, actually), and have not found an acceptable alternative source.

You can see what a burst colostomy looks like on the hilarious Dinner II thread (at the bottom of the page obviously).

The smoked eel was from my parents-in-law, they live by the sea in Norfolk and have a great fishmonger who smokes and sells his own eels at a very reasonable price. It's usually quite an expensive delicacy and not something i would buy for myself here at the market, the eel in that dish alone would cost around £10!! I think they paid £3-4 for it, they know i like eating it a lot so treat me to it every so often when they visit

I know what you mean by the frozen eel from China, everyone's been saying to avoid it. It's definitely contaminated with all sorts.

Homegrown breakfast, I love this time of year! The egg is fresh from the back yard, ham from my neighbors pig, as well as the cantalope.
