Metropolitan Grill

As we're going to the symphony at 8 PM and would prefer a shorter walk rather than running from Belltown or trying to find a cab at the last minute.

So.....we haven't been to Metropolitan Grill and thought we'd give it a try. Any thoughts?

If you like the whole steak house thing, then The Met is probably a good choice. I think the quality of meat is comparable to the other high-end places in town.

Most women don't seem to know how much flour to use so it gets so thick you have to chop it off the plate with a knife and it tastes like wallpaper paste....Just why cream sauce is bitched up so often is an all-time mytery to me, because it's so easy to make and can be used as the basis for such a variety of really delicious food.

What about Earth and Ocean, Sazerac, Union, or the Japanese place on Harbor Steps? I'd say Troiani, but you weren't completely sold last time. Nice that you can leave your car with their valet while at the symphony though. I've hoofed it from Brasa and Zoe without too much trouble. Matt's, Cafe Campagne, and Chez Shea (why?) too.

Actually have never set foot in the Met. No good reason.

*** tsquare....I've been in the mood for a good steak or prime rib dinner and the Met seemed a great location.

You're right about my visit to Troiani...It was a bit hit or miss.

As to your other suggestions...I've been to all of them except Zoe, Brasa, Earth/Ocean and Sazerac...and have them on the 'to visit' list.

I just wanted to know if anyone had really strong opinions either way about Met. I realize it's not cutting edge cuisine...but for cocktails and a hunk of good meat I hope it fits the bill.

If what you're after is a properly cooked and nicely seasoned slab o' beef, steakhouse sides ('taters and Caesars), and old-school cocktails (think Martinis and manhattans), the Met should fit the bill nicely. It's almost a time warp by now, but for what it is (and it doesn't claim to be anything else), I think it's swell.

Yeah, yeah, yeah...I know it sounds like a real throw-back as compared to the type of food I usually seek...but I think it will be fun.

I've walked by a few times and it reminds me a little of places my parents took me as a kid....Maybe that's part of the attraction....LOL

I am really craving a big 'ol slab of meat...nice and rare and a martini or three.

Loved The Met !

Professional and attentive service make any dining experience better and this place does it right.

Here's our dinner from last night:

Cocktails: Mohito and Side Car

Wine: Chateauneuf du Pope 2001 Vieux Mas De Pope (I know, it's against the rules to drink white wine with red meat..so sue me)

Appetizers: Clams on the Half Shell (?Eagles Nest)

Calamari with Tomato Basil Relish and saffron-roasted red petter aioli

We were smart and shared the 20-OZ Bone-In Fillet with garlic mashed potatoes and a HUGE side of creamed spinach.

Dessert: Ice Cream Sundae....

No complaints about this place...It delivered as promised and everything came at the appropriate temperature and at the right pace.

If I had to find a negative it would be the size of the portions. My Calamari appetizers would have easily fed four people. As it was I shared it with my husband and we only got about half-way through it.

Same for the spinach..family-size.

That said, I thought the steak was fantastic and loved the simple ice cream sundae to top-off the heavy meal.

Glad you liked it. I too sometimes crave a really good piece of steak and cocktails and the Met is great for that. El Gaucho is fun but a little over the top-I really don't need a waiter to escort me by the arm to the restroom.

LOL WHAT the hell are you doing Kiliki to attract that kind of, um, attention?! I've NEVER had service like that at El Gaucho! :shock:

It wasn't me, I swear-I saw this happen to other women, too. I asked the busboy where the restrooms were, as it is so dark in there and with a few cocktails in me I didn't want to go stumbling around the whole place, and he hooked his arm in mine and said it was their "tradition." Another woman who was escorted burst into hysterical giggles when her waiter took her arm.
