Semi-Homemade Cooking

Comfort Me

Stove Top stuffing.

And on the subject: During the last "dinner party" episode she used a can of chicken stock/broth with no label and said it had no label because her nephew and neice needed labels for a school fundraiser. How odd to not only bring up the fact that the can had no label but to give a reason. Perhaps it was a shout-out to Swanson's that they better get on the ball and sponser her show before some other manufacturer does.

For some more fun with crappy cookbooks, I just started a Hall of Shame for our cookbook collections:

Confess or I'll get the Comfy Chair!

I watched her last sunday. She made pink meringue "kisses" that "match my kichen. And my sweater!". She also made fondant covered marshmallows. I think they were skewered on colored straws or something. I had to brush my teeth after watching, they were starting to hurt just looking at all that sugary stuff!

I watched this show the other day, and tried to keep an open mind about it. But, she's not a likeable person. I found the constant "Now I want you to' and "What I want you to do" irritating.

I think her show is geared toward people who need dicipline in the kitchen. She's the dominatrix of trailer trash cooks. :::: Cool-Whipping :::: them all into....shape, as it were. :raz: Some people actually LIKE to cook this way. It's hard to understand but she's almost like a modern day Peg Bracken. Remember her and her best seller "The I Hate To Cook Book"? Her recipes were heinous, but they DID appeal to a certain crowd.

I remember Peg Bracken and "The I Hate to Cook Book."

Difference from Sandra Lee:

--Peg was funny in an Erma Bombeck sorta way, almost a parody.

Similarity to Sandra Lee:

--Peg was a spokesperson for Birds Eye frozen vegetables and a lot of her recipes included them.

Hopeful similarity:

--The next generation will not know who Sandra Lee is.

Have you noticed that she will almost finish something and it will look really crappy...then she will present the "Swap Out" which looks considerably better (still not great of course)? She obviously has a crack team of minions to do those (and by that...I mean they must be on crack.

The thing that really riles me is the promotion of these factory foods filled with who knows what.

We all (most of us) use processed foods from time to time, but to encourage people to BASE their diet on it seems somehow, well, immoral.

And if she is, as many of us suspect, shilling for shillings, then double shame on her.
