Espresso Tasting LB

The "Good Espresso in LA" thread has sparked some interest in a Southern California eGullet espresso tasting. Tim, the owner of Aroma di Roma in the Belmont Shore area of Long Beach would be delighted to have a group of espresso lovers in for a sampling of his products. So espresso, panini and gelato are on the menu for some tasty, casual and inexpensive fun. Arkestra and Grand Cru have stated interest -- we simply need to decide upon the date and time.

Anyone game?

Kit, as mentioned before, I'm definitely interested. I agree with Ari that the panini factor indicates a lunchtime meet, and a weekend is fine with me. Looking at my calendar, my best window would be for Saturday, 9/27. I hope that is agreeable to all comers, but I'll keep an eye out for further details. I had a "palate recalibration" there Wednesday night with a mix of bacio and pistachio gelati. Looking forward to trying one of their panini, as the combinations looked intriguing.

Awww, come on all you southern californians! Let's have a bigger show of hands! I had the "campagnola" panini for lunch at Aroma di Roma today. Sun dried tomato paste (ingredients include garlic and olives) along with fresh tomato and smoked mozzarella. Tons of flavor, not too heavy.

Ari and Kriss and any other potential participants: Sept. 27th is the one day I absolutely could not make it. Sunday the 28th would work though. Or most any other weekend.

So? Are we assembling for espresso/panini/gelato on Saturday? I'll be there, that is if this hacking cough that feels like shards of glass in my throat is gone. Hmmmm. Gelato would feel rather nice on that throat...I think I'll walk down there right now!

Ari:

If you and your gang will come, I will definitely meet you there. If it is not the best day for you we could certainly give it another shot on another day when (perhaps?) we might have a larger crowd??? Also, a very slight warning: Tim (the owner) is in Italy at the moment and although he has trained his employees very well indeed, he is the real expert and I'd prefer he were behind the machine, pulling the espressos.

Kit, let me know if you're going to be there at 1:00.  If I hear from you before 9:30 tomorrow, I'll plan on being there.  If not, some other time.

Chris, I'm open for another date too.

Okay, gang, let's go for another date then. As I said, I would recommend going when Tim is in town and when I mentioned it to him, he expressed interest that he would really like to be there too. I think he'll be back the last weekend in October, but will confirm.

This IS going to happen! I'm looking forward to meeting you and whomever else decides to show up.

Okay, all you espresso and gelato lovers within any reasonable distance of Long Beach! We're going to give this another try. We'll be meeting on Sunday, Nov. 2 at 11:30 to sample the tasty wares at Aroma di Roma.

For those who've forgotten, or just latching on to the thread for the first time, it's at 5327 E. 2nd St. in Belmont Shore. Our own Kit Williams, a devout regular at AdR, will coordinate our visit with AdR's owner, Tim Turel. Kit promises that the delectable fig gelato WILL be in play, as well as their irresistible array of gelati and panini, all chased down by some of the best espresso drinks pulled in So Cal. Your taste buds will thank you loudly and bilingually, "Thank you! Grazie! Delicioso! The best!" Mark your calendars and make the trip to join us.

Thanks to all who came to Belmont Shore yesterday for our sampler of panini and gelato, Italian sodas and espresso. Great meeting Grandcru and Jschyun and Shyu (am I spelling your name right?) who, I hope, will soon be posting like mad on egullet. And thanks to my great buddies, Jana and Gregor, for adding to the great conversation and fun of the day.

And to Tim, Armando, Richard and all the staff who make Aroma di Roma what it is, don't change a thing! I just love the tuna and pesto panini!

I'm heading there right now for my Monday morning latte. And perhaps another dish of fig gelato!
