Still, it would be good to elaborate on your post. Is this a super-special sort of deal? Is it rare and only shows up once in a blue moon?

 

If it's just a sale price, that's not really a good reason to start a topic -- lots of items go on sale all over the world.

Not available for about 5 years. Gold Label 18 yo not available at least as long. Blue label  £100+.

Long time lurker just trying to contribute, yo! It's a great whiskey which has been unavailable for years and which I saw today. Bought one bottle and I wish I'd bought more.

We seems to get more of it in the US. Although it was supposedly going away a few years ago I can't recall when it wasn't available on the shelf at least in Atlanta and now it has been officially revived by Diageo.  

 

Whether the blend of the four single malts was changed in any way when the decision to eliminate it was reversed I can't say. I put a couple away when it was reportedly going to be discontinued but I still have some of that left. So maybe at some point it he interim it finally disappeared since I haven't really looked for it in a while!

 

I do think it is a nice whisky, albeit underproofed for me like most JW labels, that is generally available at a decent price that seems to get underappreciated. Don't know how much it has gone up in price locally since I haven't looked for it recently but everything is going up so it probably has too!

 

There is also reportedly a NAS "Island Green" JW being released that has more Caol Ila than the regular Green but that I haven't seen yet. As far as I know the regular Green remains a 15yo blended malt as it always was.

Thanks for the spelling correction Liuzhou.

As far as taste is concerned, I understand JW make a safe conservative whisky. I don't consider the Green Label a cooking whisky. It's a nice dry balanced drink. I've been there, done that with the medicinal Islay malts (been drinking whisky for 30 years) and sometimes you don't want to be reeking of peat in  the morning. It has been impossible to find the Green Label in supermarkets in the UK for a few years now so I was pleasantly surprised to find it in Morrison's. I'm not happy with the ongoing trend away from age statements in the whisky market so I was absolutely sure I'd not see it again!

Huh.  I wasn't aware that it had disappeared.  I bought a bottle some years ago, and I recall not being super impressed with it.  This year, I received a bottle as a Christmas gift from coworkers. I seem to be enjoying it a lot more this time around.  I don't know if it's because a) I didn't pay for it; b) my palate has matured a bit and I appreciate its nuances more; or c) they've altered the blend slightly (not claiming they did, but if they have).  I'm going with 'B' because that's what I'd like to believe. :)
