How many casual dining restaurants are in the UK? How many of them are independent?

I'm doing some research about the casual dining sector. Could anyone help me with the following?

 

How many casual dining restaurants are in the UK? How many of them are independent?

 

 

Even if a restaurant has multiple outlets consider it as 1 restaurant. 

E.g.: 'Example restaurant' has 30 outlets in the UK, consider it as 1 restaurant and not as 30. 

 

Independent = not a branded franchise. 

 

Examples for branded franchise: Vapiano, Wagamama, etc..

You need to define "casual dining" first. And "independent".

You've got to search around for stats. Some outlets charge for such reports, some do not. The info you need may be buried in an investment article or a trade weekly news release. I found THIS which may help.

I'd doubt whether any accurate figures would exist, let alone any estimate for the vague term of "casual". A search of the various trade newspapers' websites may turn up some estimates of totals but I doubt whether I'd want to rely on a journalistic guess.
