There's a brioche type of pepper, herb bread that I have eaten at now defunct

American Place restaurant. that I have always wanted to make so this gives

me the opportunity. It does require yeast for it's execution.

Jinmyo:  suzerainity

My first new word in three years!

Does it mean "dominant authority"

There is also the word "suzerainty."

I assume they are related.

If nothing else, the word "bread" alone would make for a very interesting restaurant name.

I'm assuming its never been done before.

hm, if things go well this time around, I'd like to participate. (I suck at baking, but I can cook something. Bruschetta topping, maybe.)

there is a recipe for chocolate-cherry bread in the new Boulud book (not to worry, it's yeasted).

Probably, not a good idea; i baked it yesterday and it came out pretty ordinary.

I'll try some russian black bread instead.

So, if you are accepting out-of-town contributions, where would we send them?

Any LA egulleteers want to try this? (I'll start a thread on California page)

I'm volunteering as judge or taster. Hmm, maybe there's the opportunity to make fewer enemies by just volunteering as free loader. Or I could be a paying cutomer at the eGullet bake sale. That's a crumby idea. How about a loaf of butter or a bottle of wine.

I'd like to renew my offer to give some Carl's Oregon Trail starter to anyone attending the event who would like some. Please let me know as I'll have to mix up enough to go around.

Me too, for two. I'll bake, probably a babka. Beau will bring butter, cheese, wine, jam, etc., according to what's needed...

Unless someone has strong feelings to the contrary, I think we should all be judges of a kind but it shouldn't actually be a contest, just a display of talents.

Buxie m'boy please do come. I'm sure you can come up with something to bring of any sort. After all you are a Moderator! :raz:

ALERT! I've just been informed that the 26th is the Superbowl. Should we change the date to the 19th???????

Personally I don't care but would hate to make anyone choose

I volunteered to host so I wouldn't have to parade my long-unpracticed yeast bread skills. Weather permitting, maybe I'll fire up the outdoor pizza oven...

No Superbowl conflict for me either.

Outdoor pizza oven?! Wood burning? I'm seeing all kinds of possibilities.

You have a tv, right? Just in the highly unlikely event that the Giants are in it.

If the SuperBowl is on that big TV, I ain't comin' . And no, I'm not kidding. One of the reasons I'm delighted that this event is on the 26th is because I need have no awareness of the SuperBowl whatsoever. And if the SuperBowl watchers go downstairs - well that's no better, in my view. This is a social event, a baking event, not a TV or sports event.

Robert, forgive me, it's not about you. I just can't stand it.
