At the local Korean market today (Los Angeles), along with the semi regular guy making the popped rice cakes in the parking lot, there was a vendor selling what the English sign said was "Peanut Butter Grilled Squid". There was no line so I wandered over. He offered a sample which consisted of cooked (boiled I think) squid legs that he popped into an electric press for a second to heat up. The chewy squid literally tasted like some sweetish peanut butter had been lightly rubbed on it. I love the chew but the peanut butter taste without anything to give it depth like soy sauce, oil, or heat/spice was not to my liking. Plus it would have been better with some charring. Is this a common street snack in Korea or just a local invention I wonder?
