Never heard of it. It sounds like an Alinea thing...infuse vanilla into butter then work that into tapioca maltodextrin.

Here many people use "vanilla sugar"-bought as such- but butter is something I don't know of!

You've probably already seen this website selling vanilla butter powder. If you haven't already contacted them, you can ask them about their distributor. They might be willing to tell you (unless they ship to Canada and want you to buy from them).

ya, that website was the only one I found. My source tells me that the item is usually very expensive, so I'm not sure that is what I'm looking for.

It is the secret ingredient in a 100 year old recipe I was given-- sorry can't say more about this.

I don't know if they have what you want, but you could check with Bakemark. The website has a BC address, but I know they have a location here -- might be across Canada.
