We'll be in Philly this weekend and I'm looking for restaurant/lounge that has speciality cocktails. Some place comparable to PX in Washington DC, PDT in New York, and the Drawing Room in Chicago.

Thanks

go to apothecary at 13th and drury (between chestnut and sansom). forward thinking, amazing cocktails. no standard issue here. truly original in philly and brand new for us.

southwark on 4th and bainbridge. classic, proper, inspired. if you don't have a regular drink they will find one for you. food is outstanding also.

and believe it or not, valanni on spruce between 12th and 13th has a great cocktail program. they are a little kitschy and overwrought, but i have found them to be a lot of fun as long as you dont take yourself too seriously.

I agree with Apothecary and Southwark, I'd add Xochitl to the list if you like tequila. They make some great cocktails but nearly all of them (or all of them, I haven't been there in a while) are tequila-based.

Hey, thanks for the Valanni tip, I never would have thought of trying there.

And I'll join the chorus agreeing with the above recommendations. My one (early) visit to Apothecary was uneven, but I've gotten better reports from people I trust. Southwark has never let me down. And I've had some great drinks at Xochitl too.

And of course we'd be remiss if we didn't mention Chick's down on 7th street just south of South St. Katie's doing creative cocktails down there wed-sat nights. And it's only a short stagger from Southwark, so you can do both without too much trouble. Not that I'm speaking from experience...

The circuit between my bar and Southwark is a well travelled one. It's only a couple of blocks. Not that Philadining has ever done that...

Southwark was on vacation last week. Not sure when they're opening back up again, so I'd call before heading over there just to be certain.
