I have been asked to plan a trip to Paris for some first timers! Money does not enter into it. Probably early June for 5/6 days. They really want suggestions for lodging, dining and sight-seeing. I realize this site is primarily dining..could we stray a bit??

I have thought the Hotel Crillon. Others? They will need the concierge services for everything, from airport arrival to departure and everything in between! They do not want to be inundated with museums or cathedrals..a little of everything to make them want to hurry back! Some sight-seeing nearby private touring etc.

Dining...let's have some fun with a variety for them. I doubt that they will be able to handle both a large lunch and dinner daily....I have an e-mail to them asking that question. Starred..Taillevent and ? Wide open for others..please say for dinner or for lunch.

Thanks in advance for your help...they will give our final list to the concierge.

I'd like to limit this to our mission and suggest restaurants, leaving hotels, sights, etc to other forums and I'll start the ball rolling suggesting that if money is no object why not do a tour of 6 three-stars that eGullet members like most, which if memory serves me right would be Gagnaire, l'Astrance, Alain Ducasse, l'Ambrosie, Grand Vefour + Le Meurice. I mean, isn't this what we did when we were young and innocent?

John, this begs a question I have worried for some time, and here is as good a place as any to pose it. Since the umbrella for the France forum is "Restaurants, Cuisine and Travel", I have wondered why travel related but food unrelated questions and observations have been consistently disallowed since most of us travel to eat! I have no quibble if general travel discussion is banned, but should not the heading then be changed? I have scanned the "Food Traditions & Culture" forum, and find it a very unnatural place to post about country-specific travel.

Perhaps the powers that be can explain.

My thoughts having done the "journey" in a past life. For first timers to come back for more.

Lasserre- still the best overall show in town for my money

Ducasse Plaza Athenee- the street walk, the place, the food

L'Arpege- always an experience to talk about

Le Meurice- just elegant

Le Bristol- the same

Pre Catelan- its June

Baccarat Musee and restuarant - beautiful

Le Violon D' Ingres- real and exciting

I am not the power . However i think John very aptly wants the focus on food.

Unless e gullet is a tourist info center. Then i truly will apologize.

To be honnest i have often wondered as to why people don't do their homework like all of us and seek everything to be given to them on a silver platter. What's worse of course, often they ignore the recommendations.

A bon entendeur, salut.(a line from Montaigne)
